Sponsor Support of the 2022 Lake Placid Horse Shows Help Fund Upgrades
Lake Placid, NY – June 2, 2022 – The Lake Placid Horse Shows, Sponsored by Bainbridge Farms, LLC, and Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC, return June 28-July 10, offering a full schedule of world-class competition with more than $600,000 in prize money. With support from 55 new and returning sponsors, the Lake Placid Horse Shows continue to thrive and build upon past success. Known as the “best
two weeks of a horseman’s summer,” the Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS) offer two weeks of exciting equestrian competition in a setting no other horse show can match. Celebrating 53 years of equestrian tradition, LPHS hosts competitions for riders of all levels and ages ranging from young children on polished ponies, to glistening hunters, to Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts. Each show is USEF ‘Pre- mier-6’ rated for both jumpers and hunters. Lake Placid Horse
Show Association Chairman Philip Richter described some of the updates that have been completed in preparation for making this year’s horse show experi- ence even better. “We’ve completely redone all the electricity on the entire grounds and we’ve put in new, improved wash racks. This will greatly enhance exhibitors’ experience on a daily basis!” Lead sponsors Bain-
bridge Farms, LLC and Sea
Shore Stables have a long history providing the kind of support needed to make im- provements to the horse shows and keep Lake Placid as a favored stop on the na- tional horse show tour. Their support, and the support of all the horse shows’ spon- sors, is vital in producing the world-class events. “It’s not only the spon-
sors who help us make im- provements to the horse shows, it’s also the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Business Members, Individual Sup- porters, and the Media Part- ners,” said Lake Placid Horse Show Executive Di- rector Lori Martin. “The dedication and support of this group helps by provid- ing financial support and also in promoting the horse shows with some even of- fering discounts to horse show spectators. Many local businesses participate in the Window Decorating Contest which also helps to wel- come spectators and riders. No other town rolls out the red carpet for their horse show family quite like Lake Placid.” Each show day, the
LPHS action starts at either 7:30 or 8:00 a.m. with classes running simultane- ously in four show rings until approximately 5:00 p.m. The Lake Placid Horse Show, June 28-July 3, is highlighted by the $100,000 Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix Presented by Alliant Private Client on Sunday, July 3. Champion jockey sets sights on the Speed Derby Champion jockey Oisin
Murphy is making his Hick- stead return this month, with the aim of competing in the British Speed Derby. Oisin made his Hick-
stead debut last summer, where he finished runner-up in the Hy Equestrian British 1.10m Amateur Champi- onship. But this time he has his target set on a bigger prize – the British Speed Derby, which is the feature class on the Saturday of the Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby Meeting (23-26 June). The Speed Derby in-
cludes many of Hickstead’s iconic fences, including the Devil’s Dyke and the Irish Bank. Unlike the Al Shi- ra’aa Derby, which is set at the maximum height and re-
quires precision jumping, the Speed Derby sees riders gallop round the Longines International Arena at top speed. The fastest time wins, with 4sec added for any fences that are knocked down. Oisin is not the first
jockey to take part in the Speed Derby – Robert Power won the class in 2013 with his sister Esib’s former event horse Doonaveeragh O One. The Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand Na- tional winner was a success- ful showjumper
in his
younger days, winning team gold at the Junior Euro- peans. So does Oisin fancy his
chances of joining Robert on the Speed Derby roll of honour? “He’s a very tal-

ented rider and I’m a very amateur showjumper! But I love jumping and I’ll try my best,” he says, adding that showjumpers Richard How- ley and Morgan Kent have been a massive help with his Hickstead preparations. Another jockey also
hoping to qualify for the Speed Derby is former Na- tional Hunt jockey Paul Car- berry. The Grand National winner has been competing in showjumping classes since his retirement from the track in 2016, and could well be one to watch at Hickstead since he’s obvi- ously no stranger to jumping huge natural obstacles at speed.
