OTRA News June 2022 With our first official ‘sea-

son opener’ behind us I would like to thank ALL the tough souls who made it out that weekend! Early May can still be cool (and yes, we had two very chilly nights!) but we were treated to mostly sunny day- time hours for our times in the saddle. Turnout was great with a good number of overnighters, plus several day riders joining in throughout the weekend. Most impressive however were young Brynn and her mom Sharon as they conquered the full weekend in warm sleeping bags in their tent. Brynn had also brought her 4-year-old Gypsy Vanner Pixie to get her first

camping.

making this such a pleasurable weekend. Our second weekend ride

June 10-12 is approaching and with it OTRA has decided to have a porta-potty available for our 4 remaining rides until Sep- tember. This is a joined venture together with the Chesley Sad- dle Club who will also have several more weekend rides on alternate dates at the Dufferin Forest Main Tract. The porta- potty will be staying in place at the campground for the season and will be available for use for OTRA and CSC members dur- ing their events. Two local OTRA members have also of- fered to have water available for the horses during each of the events as the Main Tract does not have a natural water source. You can support both clubs by joining them as they offer some of the last non-com- mercial horseback camping in Ontario. Memberships are available through www.ontari- otrailriders.ca and www.ches- leysaddleclub.ca . The OTRA Annual Gen-

lead her little horse to get her properly introduced to what this trail riding stuff is all about. Walking relaxed in a group with other horses in the back, middle and front – CHECKED! Mom made several offers to switch horses so Brynn could ride but the young lady had none of it and was determined to make this HER weekend

with HER horse as she walked for miles without even the hint of a complaint. When asked later by Yvonne what her worst ‘thing’ was during the week- end, Brynn’s thought for a mo- ment, then answered ‘filling the hay nets’! Now this is one tough young gal who we will sure see on our future rides again. Thank you to all for
