PARKSIDE AND STRATA TILES BECOME ISO 14001


COMPANIES As Parkside and Strata Tiles work towards becoming net carbon neutral tile specification businesses in 2022, the companies have undergone independent certification for ISO 14001, the International Standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS).


Designed by the International Organisation of Standardisation (ISO), 14001 provides a framework for environmental management so that companies not only comply with increasingly stringent environmental laws and regulations, but also to implement a robust environmental management system that leads to improved efficiency, quantify, monitor and control the ongoing environmental impact of operations.

As part of our Sustainability Pledge to reduce impact through every part of our operation, ISO 14001 compliance ensures we have the systems in place to be able to constantly monitor and improve our actions.”


Through the dedicated Group Sustainability Council, Parkside and Strata Tiles research, develop and champion eco-innovations and continuous measurement and improvement. The companies have a policy of sourcing new tile collections with 20% or more recycled content, use green energy, partner with WRAP to support sustainability efforts and have founded the 40 for 40 initiative with the World Land Trust.

OF SPAIN AWARDS 2021 Architects, designers and final- year students are invited to submit projects for this annual global competition, celebrating the innovative use of Spanish ceramics.


Now in its 20th year, the Tile of Spain awards are organised by the Spanish Ceramics Tile Manufacturers’

Cash prizes totalling €35,000 will be divided between three categories, which will highlight creativity in architecture, interior design and a final degree project by an architecture student.


This year, the winners of the two main prizes – architecture and interior design – will each receive €15,000, while the winner of the final degree project will receive €5,000. The awards are sponsored by ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones and Endesa.

(OAB) is to chair the panels of judges, which will comprise some of the world’s most respected architectural and design professionals. Every year they review high-calibre entries from all over the world.


In last year’s awards, the prize for the architecture category was scooped by Mesura Architects Studio for Casa Ter. First prize in the interior design category went to Atlantis Gastrobar by Arantxa Manrique Arquitectes. The Final Degree project was won by Andrea Puebla Yubero from CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. The proposal was for a centre for unaccompanied under-age immigrants.


Entry to the awards is free and submissions are being accepted from now until 28 October 2021. Projects must have been completed between January 2020 and October 2021.
