COVER STORY H TILES IN MIND
tions for tile and stone floors and how to ensure the perfect installation. THERMOSPHERE MEMBRANE
Cracking due to heat expansion and damaged wires due to a heavy hand using a trowel are the most common issues encountered when an electric underfloor heating system is not tiled over correctly. With award-winning ThermoSphere Membrane these issues disappear. It‘s a decoupling and heating system in one – meaning no more cracked tiles. The TwistedTwin heating cable is laid into the mat so it‘s protected from a trowel and variable cable spacing allows for an output of either 130W/m2
or 195W/m2 .
The ThermoSphere Membrane system is ideal for bathrooms and wet rooms and can be used with our tanking products to provide a totally waterproof and heated wet room floor. It’s also rated for extra heavy use in the Robinson Test, which makes it the most robust heated decoupling system available.
For installers looking to save more time and reduce build up height, ThermoSphere Membrane is also available as a self-adhesive version designed to be installed over plywood substrates. The self-adhesive used on the membrane is the strongest available in the UK and there is no curing time, so you can lay the membrane, install the cables and tile all in the same day.

longer to heat up which ultimately means costing more money to run. We always recommend at least 10mm insulation for optimum efficiency.
Avoid lower quality electric heating mats
There are so many choices out there and the quality can vary massively. The quality of the heating cable is important. The better the cable, the safer and more efficient the electric underfloor heating system will be. For example, all ThermoSphere heating cable is unique because it is twisted which minimises cable stress, making it the most long lasting and robust heating cable in the market.
Always test
One of the most important steps when installing an electric underfloor heating system is testing. Once the final floor finish is laid it can be extremely frustrating to have to remove a section of the floorcovering to fix an issue that would have been prevented by testing.

Electric underfloor heating should be tested three times:
● As soon as it comes out of the box to make sure the heating cable is not damaged before installation starts.
● When the underfloor heating mat or cable has been laid. This test makes sure that no damage has been done to the cable during installation.
● Finally, once the floor finish has been laid to make sure that no damage occurred during the installation of the flooring.
