WET ROOMS A LUXURY TOUCH

Kamila Chalfin, Tile Giant’s Marketing & Brand Manager, discusses the latest colour and design trends for wet rooms.

The stylish wet room continues to evolve and is a welcome addition in modern family homes. Completely waterproof, the whole idea behind the wet room is to create a practical space that offers a clean contemporary look, adding value to the home. With minimal lines and furnishings, wet rooms not only look good but they offer a multitude of benefits including less time spent cleaning and easy access for family members of all ages.

With multi-generational living impacting homes across the nation as families combine income to save money, wet rooms have grown in popularity once again. The beauty of wet rooms is that they offer an inclusive design, which means they’re suitable for all. The showering area of a wet room is at the same level as the rest of the floor, providing easy access, while the open-plan design provides extra space for furniture like a bench or seating area.

When it comes to the design of a wet room, surfaces are all important. Large format concrete and plaster- effect tiles in warm natural shades are ideal for creating a spa-like feel. For a modern, premium finish, we recommend coordinating 90x90cm square tiles on both walls and floors.

Warm gold Carrara and Calacatta marbles are the new ‘it’ design highly sought after by designers and celebrities. The beautiful veining and metallic tones turn surfaces into works of art for a luxurious look that can work in rooms of any shape or size.

Tile Giant’s Ideal Home Bellagio collection brings this marble look to life with matt and semi polished finishes available, together with different sizes and matching mosaic options. Made from durable porcelain, the Bellagio square mosaic tiles are well suited to wet rooms, with the other tiles in the collection perfect for use on the walls. The mosaics come on mesh sheets, which means they are easy to adjust and

angle on any wet room floor, and easy to cut to fit any space. Spare mosaic strips don’t have to go to waste and can be easily repurposed as a decorative feature border or tiled alcove for visual added interest.

A final top tip: For designs with mosaics on the floor, always check

the range selected is suitable for wet room use. Many mosaics contain glass pieces, which we do not recommend for floors. They are fragile and can get dangerously slippery when wet.
