FEATURE THE GREAT OUTDOORS BAL launches a simple new system for installing external tiles and pavers.


The new External Tiling Range from BAL provides a familiar system for the most common process of installing patios and ground-floor terraces.


Using top performance and quality standards, the new range provides improved installation for the two main build-ups in the UK: concrete or Type 1 MOT, or concrete which is in perfect condition for tiling.


When installing onto Type 1 MOT, easy fixing is made possible with three new BAL External Range Products:


BAL Bedding Mortar - A pre-blended mix of cement and graded fillers to provide a semi-dry mortar bed. It couldn’t be easier to use, just add water and mix in a forced action mixer. It can be laid from 25mm for Type 1 MOT, to 100mm in a single application and gives more than one hour working time. Walkable in 12 hours, BAL Bedding Mortar is freeze/ thaw resistant and conforms to BS 7533 requirement.


Fast track compared to traditional sand/cement beds, it provides a constant mix with improved performance as well as a reduced risk of discoloured joints and efflorescence along with a quicker job completion.


BAL Priming Slurry Bond - A flexible slurry priming coat for bonding external pavers and tiles. Fast and simple to use, it only requires mixing with water and provides excellent bonding strength between base and pavers or tiles. With excellent coverage of 8m2


at 2mm thickness,


it’s possible to brush, roll or trowel on and is fully compliant with BS 7533.


BAL Terrace Grout - Provide the perfect finish with this high-performance flexible joint compound for pavers and tiles. Achieve a super smooth and hardwearing finish with exceptional bond strength and flexibility even with porcelain tiles. BAL Terrace Grout mixes quickly onsite with water and is easy to spread into joints over a large floor area and can be used for joint widths up to 15mm. Available in four key colours, beige, light grey, dark grey and charcoal, BAL Terrace Grout is frost and heat resistant and conforms to EN 13888.


When fixing onto concrete which is in a good condition for tiling, but may need smoothing out, select new BAL Level Out, a fast-setting one-part external levelling compound for smoothing rough or impact damaged concrete.


BAL Level Out has a number of performance benefits. Suitable for external applications, it is fast-setting and walkable after two to three hours. Apply from 2mm to 20mm thick in a single application and achieve excellent coverage – 3m² at 5mm thick. It’s possible to reduce

the water content for when creating falls and has a 30-minute bucket life.


When fixing tiles and natural stone direct onto concrete or leveller, BAL recommends the use of BAL Pourable One or BAL Rapid XP Plus.


Both BAL products are mixed as rapid-setting, thick-bed pourable tile adhesives, perfect for fixing large format porcelain, slabs and natural stone.


With bed depths up to 25mm, they are suitable to level minor inconsistencies. Pourable adhesives also make tiling easy over larger areas. With a thixotropic formulation, the ribs hold their shape and easily collapse to ensure solid-bed fixing.
