LARGE FORMAT TILES THINK BIG

Tile Giant’s Marketing & Brand Manager Kamila Chalfin discusses how large format tiles can transform any room in the home, no matter how big or small.

The trend for large format tiles continues to grow with homeowners now embracing larger-sized wall and floorcoverings to tap into the supersized trend.

No longer confined to hotels, bars and restaurants, large format tiles work well in all areas of the home from hallways and living areas through to kitchens and bathrooms, adding a sense of sophistication.

Available in a spectrum of colours, there’s a shade to suit rooms of all shape and size with light tones of grey and white bouncing light naturally around the room, while darker colours such as black and charcoal add drama and depth. One of the main advantages of large format tiles is that they create the illusion of space, visually expanding a room and providing a continuous look, ideal for contemporary, minimalist spaces.

There’s a popular misconception that large tiles shouldn’t be used in small rooms. But don’t believe everything you hear. This myth simply isn’t true. Whether you’re working with a small or large room, bigger tiles can work wonders. Large formats mean fewer grout lines creating a seamless, continuous look across walls and floors opening up a space, perfect for open-plan living areas that flow from one room to the next. When it comes to choosing a grout, match it as closely as possible to the tile shade to minimise grout lines even further.

Concrete, wood and marble effects are in high demand when it comes to larger tiles. Natural colours such as grey, greige, beige and white bring the outdoors in with natural shade variation and veining adding subtle visual interest. This natural look has remained a key trend and something that will evolve into next year with tile effects becoming ever closer to the real material. Choose soft beige and greige tones for a neutral look with added warmth.
