WHAT’S NEW? BAL SUPPORTS DIY SOS
PROJECT IN CORBY Full tiling solutions specialist BAL has joined forces with CTD Tiles to donate adhesives and grout to a DIY SOS project in Corby, Northamptonshire.
The team from the BBC One programme was called in to help rebuild Jackie and Colin Hutchinson’s house after builders let them down, leaving their house in a mess.
Jackie and Colin have a 16-year-old son Jordan who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy and had spent a £60,000 loan on urgent modifications to their home. But the family were left with a shell without a roof, forcing them to move in with Mrs Hutchinson’s mother.
Scores of tradesmen, including tiler Andrew Forti from Northampton, pitched up to support the project,
offering their time free of charge to rebuild the house. The build included a new kitchen, bathroom, and a fully-inclusive wet room.
BAL donated Flex One S1 enhanced standard set adhesive, BAL Pourable One pourable thick bed floor adhesive, BAL Green Star and BAL Micromax2 Grout in a variety of colours.
Tiles including Chalk Farm White Smooth Metros, Sorgente Manatee Grey Mosaics, Shoreditch Wood Acacia Tiles and light grey metro tiles were donated by Walls and Floors Ltd in Kettering.
Presenter Nick Knowles told the BBC: “To have a youngster with a disability and not be able to go into an environment to try to make life better is really frustrating.”
From start to finish, the rebuild took nine days, with more than 100 people working on the house every day.
Mrs Hutchinson said a completed house would bring some normality back into their lives and give Jordan freedom in his own home.
“It would mean the world, especially to Jordan, and for us as parents to
LTP INTRODUCES NEW BLACK SPOT &
ALGAE REMOVER LTP has introduced a new stain removal treatment to its range.
The new Black Spot & Algae Remover restores the appearance of natural stone, concrete, brick and porcelain. Achieving results in as little as two hours, the treatment is ideal for deep cleaning new and existing paths, patios and driveways.
Made in the UK, the new treatment targets organic residues, including black spot, lichen, moss, algae and other stains caused by damp and slippery leaf matter.
Before application, surfaces should be swept clean. The treatment is then applied neat, using a watering can

or light pressure garden spray, and left to act for 2-4 hours. The fizzing formula breaks down residue and
watch him grow into a young man and just have a little bit of independence,” she said.
Alex Underwood, Head of Marketing at BAL, said: “This is a great example of local tradespeople and companies coming together to help Jackie and Colin give their son a home where he can live independently.
“We were delighted to help in some small way towards this fantastic project by the BBC DIY SOS team.”
The episode is due to air later this year.

its bleaching action removes stains. Surfaces are then hosed with clean water. The remover can be used on dry and slightly damp surfaces and should be applied during a morning or afternoon of fair weather.
Newly-cleaned surfaces can be protected with LTP External Stone Sealer or LTP Porcelain Protector. Both treatments create a barrier without altering surface appearance; this prevents absorption of moisture and organic particles, reducing staining and the spread of algae, mould and black spot.
The new treatment provides up to 25m2
coverage per five litres
and is available from UK stock, alongside expert advice from LTP’s technical team.
