After what feels like an eternity, we’re finally out of January and the days are starting to get at least a little bit longer. However, the slightly lighter mornings don’t yet correlate with the temperature of the house when getting out of bed. Or, at least, not in my house anyway. This is why underfloor heating is at the top of my ‘must have’ list for my forthcoming bathroom renovation, as it undoubtedly will be for many others planning refurbishments. Though a successful finished product will make for a happy customer, tiling professionals will know that the installation process can very easily go wrong, particularly when it comes to adhesives. In this issue, we have specific technical advice from the likes of BAL and Kerakoll to ensure you don’t find yourself in a sticky situation when fixing tiles over underfloor heating.

As well as keeping your technical knowledge up-to-date, it’s just as vital right now to be aware of the trend forecasts for this year. After quietening down since the height of their popularity a few years ago, industrial-inspired interiors seem to be having a moment again. In our dedicated tile effects section, Ceramique Internationale’s Peter Vann explains why this is such an enduring look. Meanwhile, the experts from Iris Ceramica delve into the topic of sustainability and Verona’s Katy Harris talks nature-inspired effects.

Speaking of sustainability, you can find even more on this in our overview of this year’s Surface Design Show event held earlier this month, where the key theme of ‘Close to Home’ focussed on the manufacturers’ impact on the environment. Elsewhere in the magazine, we also take a look at the latest technology transforming the tile and stone industry and bring you all of the latest news and product updates.
