SIGHTINGS FROM SPAIN
some of the innovative ideas to emerge at this year’s Cevisama tile fair, held in Valencia from 28th
The voice of the Spanish tile industry, Tile of Spain, looks at January- 1st
February.
As a key global event for the tile industry, Cevisama is impressive in size and this year attracted close to 800 exhibitors, covering some 120,000m2
in the fair’s showground.
Spanish tile manufacturers were out in force and were accompanied by brands from all around the world.
For this reason, the event is seen as an important indicator of where the tile industry is going next, as many of the latest trends are revealed here. Based on what was showcased, we’ve put together our selection of the trends you should expect to see throughout 2019.
► WONDROUS WOOD
Wood-effect porcelain has always been popular and it was clear at Cevisama that there is still room for Spanish manufacturers to show off their inventiveness. The variety of designs of wood-effect tiles has grown significantly and their similarity to the natural material is breath-taking. Best
of all, ceramic tiles – unlike the real material – are water-resistant, fire-proof, hygienic, anti-allergenic, durable and often available in anti-slip versions.
► DIAMONDS
ARE FOREVER Geometric tiles come in many guises, from 3D reliefs to heritage- style hydraulic tiles to glossy contemporary small formats. The diamond shape is an intriguing motif that a number of Spanish producers are utilising in their latest products and it certainly ties into the trend for maximalism as diamond patterns lend themselves to being used in big and bold ways.
