STEP INSIDE LIVING SPACES

David Bigland, Managing Director of Moduleo UK and Eire, discusses why more and more homeowners are opting for a vinyl alternative to natural materials when it comes to their flooring.

Seize the Fauxment

Entrance halls are the first impression your home presents to guests, therefore a great area to make a style statement. As more people embrace the latest interior design trends they see in magazines, blogs and on social media, there is greater demand for quality, design-led flooring.

Homeowners are welcoming their individualism by creating statement floors and finding it’s much easier to implement this with luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), an increasingly popular alternative to natural wood or stone.

The art of zoning, for example, allows people to create completely different looks in one room or space. Various areas can be fashioned by dividing the floor with texture or colour for a decorative finish.

Geometric and monochrome patterns have also been popular, as have lighter wooden tones and stones, which are used in conjunction with darker walls so that the space doesn’t feel overwhelming.

Vinyl flooring presents a cost-effective alternative to the popular parquet style- flooring, which can be very costly and time consuming to install as it consists of many smaller pieces. Luxury vinyl flooring, such as Moduleo Impress in Bohemian, offers speedy installation time coupled with high-quality design.

24 | Tomorrow’s Retail Floors

Over the past few years, we’ve seen a significant increase in the popularity of vinyl flooring in areas of the house with high footfall, such as the entrance to the home, stairs or hallways.

LVT offers the epitome in design and durability that isn’t afforded with its natural counterparts and is perfect for areas with particularly high traffic. This can be chalked up to a few things; ease of installation, price point, durability and minimal maintenance once installed.

With endless colours, designs and patterns to choose from, all boasting the authentic knots, grains and detail you would expect from real wood or slate floors, but without the hefty price tag, people are increasingly turning to less costly alternatives, knowing they don’t have to compromise on aesthetics.

There’s a number of reasons to choose LVT; it’s easier to maintain and more cost-effective, but also massively durable. Consisting of multiple technically-advanced layers, including a wear layer, protectonite PU layer and fibre glass layer, no other flooring offers the same level of scuff and scratch resistance that LVT presents.

A key consideration when selecting flooring is how much footfall the space will receive. The scuff and stain- resistant properties of quality vinyl flooring mean that the floor’s integrity

will be maintained regardless of how many guests come through the door or how the space is used.

A particular benefit of Click styles, whereby planks or tiles click into place like a jigsaw without the need for adhesive or sub-floor preparation, is that if one plank is damaged it can be replaced easily without affecting the rest of the floor. This can be especially advantageous in areas of the home with high usage, where wear-and-tear is more inevitable and harder to conceal due to lack of furniture.

With more footfall comes more mess. Vinyl outperforms many natural products because it is much easier to maintain, requiring just a simple brush or mop to preserve the quality - something that is hugely desirable in today’s fast-paced society.

Manufacturers work hard to ensure that today’s flooring looks as good in years to come as it did the day it was installed.

With the option of LVT, homeowners no longer need to sacrifice style or substance when it comes to flooring, they can have it all. Offering better value in the long-term, regardless of upfront costs, there’s truly no reason that vinyl flooring shouldn’t be a viable alternative to the natural counterpart.
