Made to Measure

As a flooring retailer, the topic of software and technology can sometimes be a little hazy. If you pause for a minute or two and ask yourself ‘how did we do it all prior to technology?’, the simple answer is more people-right? Perhaps. However, I seem to remember people being just as busy, the tools were just different and that is the key. If you look at technology and software as tools, they take on a whole new meaning. The right tool for the right job will save time, save you a great deal of frustration, make you look like a professional, reduce damage and waste, and most of all, avoid a trip to the dog house.


It is an inescapable truth that we all rely on technological “tools” to keep up with the pace of life and business today, and it can be easy to underestimate how much time and money it really does save.


For example, a trip to the airport I made recently highlighted the impact that technological “tools”, seen and unseen, had on my time and, ultimately, how I felt by the end of the day.


A two-hour drive to the airport through peak time traffic was reduced to an hour and thirty minutes with GPS technology, digital road signs, radio announcements and traffic reports.


Parking at the airport now uses light and sound technology. Bay lighting indicating if the space is free or taken is one of the best things since sliced bread.
