A big hello and welcome to the January/February issue of Tomorrow’s Retail Floors.

If it’s not too late to say so, Happy New Year! Here at TRF, we’ve decided to start the year by adding a fresh feature section to the magazine to accompany our ‘Focus On’ and ‘Step Inside’ segments. Kicking off the first edition of our ‘Special Focus’ section, we are taking a look at the use of colour and pattern combinations within the world of interiors.

For me personally, 2018 was a fairly momentous year as it was the year that my partner and I bought our first home. We have been very lucky in the sense that the house has been well looked after by its previous owners and it did not take long for it to feel like home. However, there was one thing that had to go almost immediately- carpet in the bathroom! At first, admitting that it was a relatively minor issue, we tried to ignore it and focus on the other jobs that were much more pressing, making do with strategically-placed bathmats to hide the unsightly damp stains. However, the thought of a family of three boys having spent 17 years using the space kept rearing its ugly head and the carpet was soon ripped up and replaced with sheet vinyl. Having, of course, shared my first world problem with my captive audience of colleagues, this soon started a debate on whether carpet in a bathroom will ever make a comeback. We, therefore, decided to investigate this further in our Bathrooms feature section and asked experts from various fields, including interior design and commercial cleaning, for their opinions and advice.

Elsewhere in the issue, we also have a plethora of industry updates to keep you informed of new launches and developments, as well as expert comment and case studies on the topic of wood & laminate flooring.

Happy reading!
