Linde Material Handling (UK) has unveiled a truck-mounted Reverse Assist Camera that uses AI-based technology to distinguish people from objects in real time, making the working day safer for pedestrians in warehouses and production areas.
By employing an algorithm that targets collisions involving people rather than objects, the ‘intelligent camera’ also prevents forklift drivers becoming desensitised to persistent warning signals.

The reverse assist camera, with multi-level warning system, is already available to the UK logistics industry both as a fully integrated solution on new vehicles and as a retrofit option.
Gavin Carslake, Safety Sales Manager with Linde Material Handling (UK), said: “If it detects a person within a defined angle around the camera, the system triggers a multi-level warning system via the optional 7-inch colour display together with an acoustic signal. It can also activate an automatic reduction in driving speed.”
“To reduce the number of such signals further, the alarm settings can be limited to when the truck is actually travelling in the direction of people nearby.”

The camera can be used on its own or combined with Linde MH’s extensive range of assistance and safety systems. These include the Linde Motion Detection system, which prevents the truck from starting up if a person or vehicle is moving behind it, and Linde Safety Guard.
The launch of the intelligent Reverse Assist Camera forms part of Linde MH’s ‘Vision Zero’ concept, setting a goal of completely avoiding accidents in the in-house flow of materials, particularly those in which people are injured.
