10 QUESTIONS WITH... 10 QUESTIONS WITH…

In each issue we ask an FM professional the Tomorrow’s FM 10 Questions. This month we spoke to Bianca Angelico, Chief DayMaker at On Verve, to talk about her influences.

Q1 Q2

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

A waitress at my papa’s restaurant called Salvatore’s in Cape Town.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE

FM INDUSTRY? My first role in London was an assistant to the CEO of a global events company covering topics on the workplace. Through that role I was introduced to FM.

By joining networks like EWL and IWFM, I truly fell in love with the industry. It was amazing how the community embraced me and shared their journeys with me, and I saw how there was huge amount of opportunity to grow within.

Since then, I’ve never looked back. Q3

HOW DO YOU CHALLENGE THE

STATUS QUO? I’m currently challenging the status quo in the guest services industry with On Verve. We are the newest offer to hit the market.

At On Verve, we offer energy and enthusiasm and balance it with mindfulness to create the right atmosphere for our clients’ workplaces. Employees want more than a hotel experience inspired service in the workplace. They want something more enticing that excites them to come back to the office over and over. With many organisations using hybrid strategies, it will be a challenge to make sure that virtual employees are enjoying the same great experience as those in the office. We will embrace human interaction and technology to offer clients the best of both worlds.

Q4

SINCE YOU STARTED IN FM WHAT HAS

BEEN THE BIGGEST CHANGE THE INDUSTRY HAS SEEN /

64 | TOMORROW’S FM

YOU HAVE OBSERVED? The two biggest changes I have seen since being in the industry is the crash of Carillion and COVID-19. For me personally, COVID-19 has redefined the importance of guest services and the industry has changed irrevocably. We’ve all come to appreciate the importance of human interaction and mental health, and guest services can help maintain that post-pandemic.

Q5

WHO, IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRY, DO YOU

MOST ADMIRE? Karissa Kouchis – she runs Unleash Her Power Within. Her energy is like nothing I’ve ever come across, how she uplifts women and helps them find their true self and passion. Plus, she’s only in her mid-20s. An incredible human and I love UHPW training.

Q6 Q7 Q8

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FILM?

I’m actually more a series person and my all-time favourite is Gilmore Girls. If I had to choose one film that I’ve watched more than handful of times would be Coach Carter – the famous quote about our deepest fear is so powerful.

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY WITH

THREE GUESTS, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE

AND WHY? Tina Turner, Martin Luther King Jr. and my nona, Maria Louisa Angelico, was my papa’s mama who died in 1993. Sadly, I didn’t get much time with her, and I know we would have been best of friends today if she was alive.

ANY ADVICE TO SOMEONE JUST

STARTING OUT IN

THE INDUSTRY? Find a network such as Emerging

Workplace Leaders, because having a tribe that supports you will help you through the good and bad but also with your dreams for your career progression. I love being part of EWL. The committee and network have helped me reach my dream job – being Chief DayMaker at On Verve.

Q9

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE FUTURE OF THE

FM INDUSTRY? It’s about creating ‘wow’ experiences that make the workplace a destination that employees, guests and clients choose over and over again. So many people have got used to working from home or remotely that they may question the role of the office, and traditional perks might not cut it anymore. FM, and guest services, has a huge role to play in supporting businesses in making the workplace a desirable, happy and productive place to be.

Q10

WHICH AREA OF FM DO YOU

THINK COULD BE BEST TRANSFORMED THROUGH

TECHNOLOGY? I think numerous areas could be transformed. From a guest services perspective, visitor management systems will evolve so that people can self-check when they enter a space. That will free up Guest Services teams to spend more quality time with employees and guests.

Scheduling systems will not only enable employees to book a meeting room or a desk, but show them who else will be in the workplace and when. Now scheduling can include more, from parking spaces to flexible space, which will give the facilities teams data to help them adapt to the usage and what employees and guests want.
