Cases of COVID-19 in Denmark continued to decline after the nation reopened its elementary schools in April. New cases also dropped in the Netherlands after their elementary and high schools opened in May and June respectively whilst no evidence of an increased spread of the virus has been witnessed in Finland, Belgium or Austria after schools reopened.


There is no doubt that the return to schools will present many new and unprecedented challenges. But the safety of staff and teachers will be optimised with the aid of well-thought-out strategies, consistent advice, excellent cleaning protocols and ensuring that the right tools are available to facilitate good hand hygiene compliance for all.
