HEALTHCARE & HOSPITAL FACI LITIES SUPPORTING THE TRUSTS
Restore Harrow Green talks to Tomorrow’s FM about its work with the NHS throughout the pandemic.
The client The NHS is one of our largest and most valued customers and really doesn’t require an introduction. During the last year the NHS faced an exceptional level of pressure while fi ghting tooth and nail to keep people alive in the midst of one of the worst pandemics in living memory and it has been an honour to be able to support it during this extremely diffi cult time.
The challenge Throughout the pandemic our North East team were called to support a number of NHS bodies in a variety of projects so that they were able to continue offering critical care to the thousands of people affected by this terrible disease.
The solution Our teams managed a number of projects throughout the UK such as the rationalisation of sites in Leeds, Southport, London and Exeter to allow staff to socially distance on return. This involved approximately 3000 staff in the whole UK estate and included removing furniture and technology from NHS Digital sites and storing at our warehouses in order to free space at each of these sites and maximise social distancing.
We have also provided support to staff with the delivery of hundreds of chairs and desks from their offi ces in Leeds to their home addresses to allow staff to work from home, as millions of us have been doing over the course of the various lockdowns.
We also managed the moves from four NHS sites in Leeds to a brand-new offi ce hub also in Leeds, for which we delivered, installed and connected over 3000 desktop IT sets. This also included the installation of all wireless Aps for Wi-Fi connection across three fl oors.
Finally, along with the staff and their equipment we also relocated 3000 linear metres worth of fi ling from all four sites and removed and recycled over 50 tonnes of unwanted furniture from all the sites in Leeds. The furniture was reused where possible and recycled where not, according to our Refresh programme and 0% to landfi ll policy.
NHS Tees Esk Valley In order to enable the Trust to cope with the pandemic we carried out a number of hospital ward and offi ce moves, providing support to the frontline NHS staff in their fi ght against COVID-19.
Part of this involved moving specifi c COVID-19 wards and it had to be completed with the utmost care and safety for the staff, our teams and the patients. Our teams completed this project in full PPE kits, working under extreme conditions,

helping move entire wards full of COVID-19 patients to support the staff manage the pandemic.
For this project, we moved more than 100 NHS staff within the Tees Esk Valley estate to allow for social distancing. We also installed a range of new furniture in the hospitals.
NHS Rotherham Once again, we were called to help manage the Trust’s layout of beds in order to enable the them to better manage the outbreak. As a result, we moved a number of hospital beds from various wards and put them in specialist storage. We remained on stand-by to return the beds as and when these were required during the course of the pandemic. This was carried out over a four-week period and approximately 150 beds were relocated to better manage the space.
The outcome All the NHS projects were completed on time and on schedule. As a trusted supplier we remain available to the Trusts as much as possible, and continue to support them in their fi ght against the COVID-19 pandemic, which is still affecting millions of people globally.
Over the course of the pandemic, we moved 3000 personal computers, associated equipment and filing as part of the NHS Digital relocation; cleared 50 tonnes of unwanted legacy furniture from site and donated or recycled it, with 0% going to landfill; and delivered 1000 chairs to NHS staff working from home to help combat the crisis.
