When it comes to grounds maintenance, first impressions count. Here, Precision FM explains why.
Have you ever entered a building which has discarded cigarette butts scattered around the entrance, or perhaps noticed overgrown and untidy flower beds as you secure your spot in the car park?
Compare this to an exterior with well-kept lawns, cheery beds filled with flowers and an entrance free of litter.
First impressions count! The first example doesn’t leave a positive lasting impression. In the latter, immediately staff will feel a sense of pride and visitors will feel they are entering a building that cares about their reputation.
Hybrid working has meant that when employees have a choice about where to work, employers and building owners need to ensure the office is a destination workers want to return to.
A facilities management company won’t just look after the internal functions of your building, they can also take the stress out of the upkeep of any external areas and it can often form part of any Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) schedule that you might have, tying in maintenance both inside and out.

As Marriott explains: “We offer a 12 month, 365 days a year FM service to our customers and will discuss with them what exterior maintenance we would recommend for different times of the year. While winter will focus on tasks such as gritting, for the growing season - which starts in March - we will look to focus on areas such as weed control, pruning & hedge cutting, grass cutting and trimming.

“Part of our role is to help keep our clients advised on what they need to do, as often exterior upkeep will form part of the tenancy agreement. Plus, there are health and safety considerations too. Low hanging tree branches, for example, which may fall and could cause damage to property or injury to personnel and therefore need to be removed.
“Our team has the right equipment and skill set to carry out any necessary work. As well as this, we have the experience to ensure that we undertake any work in accordance with guidelines such as tree preservation orders, or using environmentally friendly herbicide.”
As well as forming part of a PPM schedule, the Precision FM team can also help clients with individual grounds maintenance projects too.
One of the more unusual requests that the team has assisted with was the creation of a memorial garden at a client’s premises. The customer wanted to create a space dedicated to a member of their team who had sadly died, and asked if an area of remembrance could be created to include benches and landscaping which could be enjoyed by the company’s team.
Marriott continues: “We know that being able to go outside and enjoy time outdoors has become so important for many, particularly recently, and this doesn’t have to stop when you come to work. We can help our clients create areas that staff can enjoy as well as keeping communal areas neat and tidy. However, while our on-site teams are weeding and planting, we are already thinking ahead to the autumn and winter to ensure that we continue to offer our clients the most appropriate service no matter the season.”
