Unitrunk Helps Futureproof Loughborough Uni

STEMlab Scheme Cable management specialist, Unitrunk, has supplied solutions from its Rapid Installation Solutions (RIS) range for the £17m STEMlab development at the University of Loughborough.

Loo Of The Year Awards

2018 Announced Many businesses pride themselves on the standard of cleaning and maintenance of the building they occupy or that they are responsible for cleaning. The most frequent place visited by most users of the building is the washrooms. First impressions count and high standard must be achieved consistently if the provider’s, and the associated cleaning or FM company’s, reputation is to be maintained.

How do service providers know how to compare with their competitors and how do they gain recognition? Entry into the annual Loo of the Year Awards is a way of receiving an independent assessment of ‘away from home’ toilet provision and recognition of the standards achieved based on ‘the washroom standard’ for the UK.

Mike Bone, Managing Director of the Awards, said: “Leading retailers, restaurant and pub chains, visitor attractions, holiday parks, shopping centres, office buildings, local authorities, and importantly the cleaning and FM sector generally, recognise the annual Loo of the Year Awards as a proven, cost effective and independent annual assessment of the standard of their washroom provision management and receive proper recognition through our annual grading scheme. ABM demonstrated in 2017 that an FM services company can achieve the ultimate accolade by winning the overall Loo of the Year Awards Trophy.”

Entries are now being received for the 2018 Loo of the Year Awards – the annual competition to find the best places ‘to go’ in the UK, the

Designed by CPMG Architects and constructed as part of a major campus investment by the University of Loughborough, the STEMlab scheme provides new engineering, physics, chemistry and bio laboratories for students. The state- of-the–art facility has the capacity to grow and adapt to the University’s changing needs, resulting in 25% redundant capacity in the cable management installation to enable the addition of more power and data cabling in the future.

The electrical installation was delivered by electrical contractor, Electract in a 38-week programme following design of the building

services for the heavily serviced facility using BIM.

The project involved the installation of more than three kilometres of cable management, including Uniklip cable tray, Easy Connect cable basket and cable trunking. The primary mains cabling was installed using Unitrunk’s single compartment trunking, while triple compartment trunking for lighting, power and low voltage cabling was laid within the screed along with floor boxes to ensure full distribution at low level without reducing floor to ceiling heights.

Richard Hogg from Electract commented: “Unitrunk’s cable management systems have been designed to enable rapid installation without the need for tools or nuts and bolts, which helped us reduce installation times by around a third, ensuring we were able to deliver the project within the University’s business critical deadlines and enable fit out to commence on time.”
