10 QUESTIONS

10 QUESTIONS WITH... RAVI BHATNAGAR

In each issue we ask an FM professional the Tomorrow’s FM 10 Questions, this month we spoke to Ravi Bhatnagar, Account Director from Anabas.

Q4

IF MONEY WAS NO OBJECT, WHAT CAR

WOULD YOU BUY?

I would have liked the concept Jaguar R-Coupe but sadly it never made it to production, so I would settle for a F TYPE R Dynamic.

Q5 Q1

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB?

My first job was on an assembly line boxing empty beer bottles to be shipped to a distillery. I can remember thinking how dangerous it was as the bottles would often be hot as they came down and if you missed boxing them, they would fall to the ground and break. Health and safety would never allow it these days!

Q2 Q3

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE FACILITIES

MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY?

When I moved to the UK in 1999, my HR and security experience landed me a role managing a security team in the docklands for a TFM service provider. This opportunity allowed me to get involved with other areas of FM and develop my skills.

WHO, IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRY,

DO YOU MOST ADMIRE?

I’d have to say David Attenborough. I love the way he has made a career out of doing something he loves and in the process brought joy, wonderment and knowledge to all of us. Did you know that he has at least 15 species named in his honour?

56 | TOMORROW’S FM

HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE

FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

INDUSTRY? I find that a lot of the technology used in the FM industry is designed around a specific service. You name the service and someone will have developed a program to improve it. The challenge of course is having something that can drive a fully- integrated service. While helpdesk technology tries to join all these things up, I’ve never come across something that works well in all areas. With companies looking for an integrated service solution, we need a system that can bring it all together.

Q6

WHAT DID YOU WANT TO

BE WHEN YOU WERE

GROWING UP? When I was younger I wanted to be a teacher, which might explain why I enjoy the mentoring side of our business so much.

Q7

IF YOU COULD HAVE A SUPER

POWER FOR A DAY, WHAT

WOULD IT BE AND WHY? I think rather than a super power I would want a Tardis. Then I could travel anywhere in space and time, translate every language and it wouldn’t take up a lot of room.

Q8

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY

WITH ANY THREE GUESTS, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO

WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? I think I’ll take this one step further and go with the fictitious characters from Friends, Ross Geller, Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani. I think it would be a laugh.

Q9

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE

FUTURE OF THE FACILITIES

MANAGEMENT INDUSTRY? I think we need to understand the up and coming workforce. If we don’t stay in touch with them, we will fall behind. Our recent white paper, ‘What Type of Office Worker Are you?’ explored the evolution of agile working and helps to rediscover what it means to be human in the workplace. As the modern workplace continues to evolve, so does the way in which we approach our work. Gone are the days of a monoculture. Diverse employees demand a diverse environment so it is vital that FMs are able to understand behaviour in order to guide effective FM delivery within an agile environment; Millennials and Gen Z appear to value agile working and the efficiencies that this brings.

Q10

SODEXO’S BERNIE

MCMANAMON ASKED: WHAT IS THE ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES

FACING THE FM INDUSTRY? I think the biggest challenge to the industry is finding well trained, passionate people who want to make a difference.
