WHAT’S NEW?

groundbreaking RQM compact fan at the Datacentres Ireland conference and exhibition, where Minister Pat Breen TD will give the keynote address. Mr Breen said in September that the Government is examining new laws in a bid to speed up future datacentre planning proposals.

Datacentres To Consume

20% By 2025 Ireland’s main grid operator Eirgrid has said datacentres will consume 20% of Ireland’s power generation capacity by 2025. It added that the huge increase in datacentre activity could eat up to 75% of growth in Irish power demand.

Globally, datacentres consume about 3% of the global electricity supply and account for about 2% of total greenhouse gas emissions. This gives the sector the same carbon footprint as the airline industry.

Saracen Completes Second Fast-Track For

Hairdressing Chain Saracen Interiors has completed a

fast-track refurbishment contract for hairdressing chain Forresters, at its salon in Caversham. The workplace consultant was awarded this second project, following on from the successful handover of a fit out for the hairdresser in Tilehurst, completed in a record nine days last year.

This latest project was undertaken by Saracen Small Works, for Forresters, and was finished in just ten days, with minimum disruption to staff and customers. Works included the removal of old fixtures, furniture and flooring; the fitting of new ceramic floor tiles, bespoke cupboards for storage, display shelving and partitioning; the installation of LED lighting panels and plumbing works for new wash basins and a tea point; and painting and decorating to refresh the interiors throughout.

Industrial fans are one of the greatest users of energy in datacentres. Indeed, it’s likely that the power required to cool IT equipment will soon exceed the energy needed to run the system. Cooling and ventilation systems and the fans within this equipment are one of the greatest users of energy in datacentres. It is therefore crucial to install the most energy efficient fans available.

Fan manufacturer Nicotra Gebhardt will showcase its

Owner and Director of Forresters, John Forrester commented: “We didn’t consider any other fit out expert, having worked so successfully with Saracen last year. The team’s delivery is second to none; they understand the pressure we’re under to keep a business such as ours as accessible to the public as possible and they are prepared to give the project their all to make sure that it is finished as quickly as possible.”

Director of Saracen Interiors, Michael Page added: “Our Small

The RQM ‘MultiEvo’ beats every traditional plug fan on energy efficiency thanks to the optimisation of all key components, including a hollow section ‘aero-foil’ backward curve impeller, a permanent magnet (PM) internal rotor motor rated at IE5 efficiency and integrated electronic controls. The compactly designed RQM can be fitted with multiple access points for ease of maintenance and is ideal for use in all types and size of Data Centre, both ‘new build’ and refurbishment/ retrofit applications.

Greg Llewellyn, Director and General Manager for Nicotra- Gebhardt UK & Ireland, said:

“The RQM is ideally suited for datacentre applications, delivering 20% better system efficiency than conventional EC plug fans” he continued.

“Our multi-spiral technology (called MultiEvo) combines the compact design of plug fans with the effectiveness and reliability of traditionally ‘housed’ fans that offer static pressure increase and energy efficiency.”
