EDITOR’S VOICE EDITOR’S VOICE Welcome to the August issue of Tomorrow’s FM. Just over eight months after its collapse, the last of the 278 contacts held

by British multinational FM and construction giant, the Carillion group, have been transferred to new service providers. Moreover, a further 429 staff

have joined new suppliers, taking the total amount of jobs saved to 13,945 – 76% of the pre-liquidated workforce. It now concludes the final stage of the largest ever trading liquidation in UK company history.

For all the criticism and running commentaries levelled at the industry in the aftermath of Carillion’s fall from grace, the uninterrupted and smooth delivery of public services during this transition phase is something to be

commended. In early January, you couldn’t go a single day without someone commenting on how a good company had fallen victim to an industry model that doesn’t work. Yes, the industry has work to do adapting to a new technological landscape and embracing better procurement strategies,

but we now know of course, Carillion was simply a poorly run company and in a free market, poorly run companies fail.

And so, onto the issue. In our CAFM & IT section, Service Works Global condenses the process of selecting the best FM software to meet organisational requirements into five essential steps and Neil Longley,

Founder of Opale Management Services, gives his controversial take on the true value of CAFM.

Elsewhere, with more businesses choosing to incorporate biophilic design into their workplace, Tomorrow’s FM met up with David Grace, Indoor Garden Design Director, to talk about how introducing nature into our

working environments impacts how we experience a space and the many benefits it can provide to our health.

Finally, whilst we have you – the Tomorrow’s FM awards are now open. We are inviting you to tell us what you think have been the best product

innovations and services over the past 12 months. If you’d like to put forward a nomination, please do get in touch with me before the end of September.

Enjoy the issue. Registered in England & Wales No: 06786728
