3. Are all asbestos containing materials in a good condition? Can you provide the evidence? If asbestos is in a good condition this is a good indication that it is being managed properly.
4. Has the risk of people being exposed to asbestos been assessed? Please provide a copy of these assessments.
This usually comes in the form of a priority risk assessment. These assessments look at the risk of people being exposed to asbestos and not just the asbestos material itself.
Acorn has been helping firms to tackle their asbestos problems head on for 20 years. On top of its day-to-day work, the firm has created pioneering podcasts about asbestos, released a best-selling book called ‘Asbestos The Dark Arts’ and produced an A5 video card to bring the subject to life.
Its experts also offer free 30-minute video calls to help firms with their asbestos queries and have developed the UK’s only fully documented and systemised asbestos management process. Known as the Acorn Asbestos Antidote, it takes firms through a step-by-step process which leads them from non-compliance with asbestos law to full compliance.
Company Director Ian Stone explained: “We go above and beyond to raise awareness about asbestos because in our
line of work we’re painfully aware of how devastating the impact of asbestos can be on people’s lives.
“Those who come into contact with poorly managed asbestos are at risk of developing fatal illnesses which, in some cases, can move with frightening speed. For example, often the symptoms of the asbestos-related cancer mesothelioma don’t show until late on which means around half of people die within a year of being diagnosed.
“This is why we’re committed to not only delivering highly professional asbestos management services but also to offering free advice wherever we can to educate people about the dangers of asbestos.”
Acorn is also a keen support of the charities Mesothelioma UK and ActionMeso which are both fighting to improve the lives of mesothelioma patients and to raise awareness about the dangers of asbestos.
