The most concerning security attribute has been the questions of access control, with traditional methods of facility entry no longer effective, or ‘COVID-19 friendly,’ to reduce the threat of infection transfer. This relates right from authentication issues to door entry and visitor management through to new concerns including mask enforcement and tracking any identified COVID-19 positive cases.


Instead, smarter technologies have been sourced, including a boost of mobile first controls. Biometrics have rapidly advanced, swapping fingerprints for retinal and facial recognition (face mask policy permitting). Motion sensor products and voice activated security is also on the increase, helping to reduce physical contact drastically.


Each of these solutions, when considered with integrated fire safety and security solutions, will make a significant difference to the successful return to normal strategies being considered.


In summary, there’s no doubt that the global pandemic has and will continue to change the way we live, work, and conduct business for some time. A big responsibility lies on facility and security teams to ensure a continued safe and secure workplace.
