57% say technology will be a key workplace driver in 2021. Other drivers are: • Home working – 80% • Collaboration – 77% • Virtual meeting platforms – 63%
Technology – it’s foundational “Technology is no longer a catalyst in the workplace – it’s foundational,” said Luis. “However, the big questions around connected technology and a more holistic approach to technology deployment did not seem critical factors. We believe workplace leaders need to make a significant shift in their strategic thinking.”
The top six challenges for
workplace leaders 1. Overcoming employees’ safety concerns.
2. Identifying what their organisation wants from its workspace.
3. Curating home and remote working.
4. Planning for wellness to promote productivity and retain talent.
5. Building agile teams. 6. Handling visitors efficiently.
Your seven key actions now 1. Think holistically about workplace technology – remember, technology is now the foundation stone of your operations.
2. Rethink space use. Meeting rooms will become technology-enabled collaboration hubs. Desk sharing and hot desking will increase.
3. Support agile working with technology. Features like desk and meeting room booking via a mobile app

4. Remember the ‘softer’ aspects: consult HR, corporate real estate and FM. Consider appointing a Head of Remote to co-ordinate agile working.
5. Improve visitor management with touchless check-in and out, badge printing, security and safety checks built in.
6. Refresh your data capabilities: many survey respondents don’t have the occupancy data for good space planning and organisation.
7. Seek a technology partner with a consultative approach to take your Workplace 2021 strategy forward.
Technology solutions “Workplace management systems provide solutions in a number of ways,” said Luis.
“Staff can co-ordinate home, remote and office-based working by booking desks and meeting spaces via an app. Multi-location meetings are organised in a few clicks.”
In these times of COVID-19, technology including QR codes provides contactless check-in and out, plus safe and secure visitor management.
Conclusion Luis said: “Workplaces will never look the same again – and we will use them in new ways. Workplace leaders who want to build and retain a talented, productive team must respond.
“The secret of success lies in taking the elements of change and making them fit with the culture, size of business and workplace you have in mind for your organisation.”
