FEATURE

Some items are more difficult to repatriate, and some boxes will contain a collection of items left in a communal area, so the owner is unclear. Many items also remain unclaimed, either because the owner has forgotten or no longer wants their possessions. It is for this reason that itemised lists are important to help people identify exactly what items they should collect.

Once an item or box is claimed, the recipient must sign for it to ensure accountability if items become lost or damaged. Recipients can then take the box or leave it for disposal.

Unclaimed items Clients are sometimes surprised by the number of unclaimed items that are left of their hands after the repatriation process. Many people have long forgotten or replaced umbrellas, scarves, coffee cups, or even shoes. As a business moves expert, we have long dealt with surplus or worn-out items.

Pre-pandemic, we worked with surplus furniture that no longer fitted our clients’ aesthetic, old tech about to be upgraded, and – even then – unwanted and unclaimed personal possessions. We have the pleasure of working closely with several charities to which we donate much of what is left behind.

We engage closely with circular economy processes and ensure that we follow the most sustainable routes for waste disposal. Those products that cannot be reused are recycled.

The pandemic has presented us with a host of new challenges and demand we rise to them, resilient and adaptable. These changes have resonated through every sector in the built environment and we will likely see them continue for a long time to come. Change is scary to some, but it is bringing with it innovation that is making the workplace moves sector an exciting and forward-thinking place to be.
