Better Security, Better Care is a free national and local support programme dedicated to strengthening data and cyber security measures across adult social care. Launched in 2021, the programme has already made a significant impact, extending its helping hand to thousands of care providers across England.

Better Security, Better Care is a nationwide programme supporting data and cyber security infrastructure across adult social care. It provides free support to care providers completing the Data Security & Protection Toolkit – the annual self-assessment tool for CQC-registered care providers.
As well as general data protection and cyber security support, the programme is designed to help providers complete the Data Security & Protection Toolkit (DSPT). The DSPT is an annual self-assessment tool that all CQC registered care providers should complete at least once a year. By doing so, care services demonstrate their commitment to having good data security measures in place and can signal to clients, families, and commissioners that they take data protection seriously. The DSPT can also be used as evidence in CQC inspections and opens up access to NHS shared systems.
The Better Security, Better Care programme offers a wealth of free support and guidance to care services using the DSPT. Care services can take advantage of monthly webinars that guide them through the intricacies of the toolkit, a national helping to address queries and concerns, and an extensive repository of online resources including free template policies that can be adapted for different organisations.

As well as this, the programme funds 28 Local Support Organisations who work across England to deliver free, direct, tailored support to care providers. Through a combination of structured guidance, online resources, and a dedicated support network, the programme empowers care providers to confidently safeguard sensitive information.
