Sleep Counselling for Adults Course by Sleep Action

ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

Sleep is crucial for our health and wellbeing, yet it is often overlooked or given low priority. Chronic sleep deprivation can be particularly detrimental to the physical and mental health of adults with additional needs, as it can exacerbate conditions such as chronic pain and anxiety. Poor sleep can also make it more difficult for individuals with additional needs to communicate and engage, leading to feelings of isolation and frustration.

Company Profile

Established in 1998, Sleep Action is the UK’s oldest sleep charity and leading provider of sleep support, training, and resources in the UK, having supported thousands of people to thrive through healthy sleep. We work with professionals, families and employers to promote healthy sleep for everyone.

Improving sleep can reduce the frequency and severity of aggressive behaviour, self-injurious behaviour, and wandering; making care homes a safer and more peaceful environment for both residents and staff. It can also improve participation in activities, enhancing both the overall quality of residents’ lives and the care home’s reputation as a high-quality provider of care.

Healthy sleep is vital to residents with additional needs, but what can be done in care homes to better support them?

AWARDS 2024 23

Sleep Action’s newest training course, Sleep Counselling for Adults, is designed to provide health and social care professionals with the comprehensive knowledge and skills necessary to deliver tailored interventions for a range of sleep issues. The course is delivered using a blended learning approach; an initial set of modules completed online to cover the theory around sleep physiology, psychology and the impact for those with complex needs, followed by virtual group sessions to cover the practical elements around supporting someone to improve their sleep. Participants are provided with a full package of resources, as well as ongoing support from Sleep Action, in order to enable them to carry out sleep counselling support and promote healthy sleep for adults with complex needs.
