flooring solution, products from the Amtico First and Spacia collections were called upon for the project.

Ashlands Manor is a luxurious care home located in Sale, Manchester, offering residential and specialist dementia care. This purpose-built, 57 bedroom facility has been expertly designed to meet all current Care Quality Commission (CQC) requirements. It also provides the highest standards of safety, comfort and care.
Internally, the attention to detail is impressive, with the specification and décor of Ashlands Manor carefully considered by an interior designer. By utilising Amtico’s luxury vinyl tiles (LVT), a lasting first impression of warmth and comfort is created, which feels homely rather than ‘clinical’. This is balanced with the flooring’s tough and resilient features that help form commercially-practical spaces.
In the bedrooms, Amtico First in Dusky Walnut provides a warming environment for residents, with the floor’s weeping grey linear grain offering beautiful and elegant spaces. The grey tones were also used as the creative inspiration for the bespoke curtain fabric, which was specially designed for the bedrooms.
This approach has ensured the rooms have a consistent colour theme, which is proven to help residents with visual impairments.
For the remainder of the property, including the day rooms, dining halls lounges and corridors, Exotic Walnut from the Amtico Spacia Woods collection provides a luxurious finish with flashes of soſt vanilla and deep rich colours.
Overall, the Exotic Walnut flooring provides a smooth flow throughout the entire property and, with a high-performance 0.55mm wear layer, the high-traffic areas are well protected for years to come.
The Department of Health provides a ‘Health Building Note’, which outlines the requirements for designing flooring in dementia environments.
There are some highly important areas that need consideration, including vision and touch impairments, plus the support of safe kinaesthesia, balance and movement.

Additionally, internal flooring should have a non- slip and smooth texture to reduce trips and falls, and provide reassurance especially to people with particular types of dementia. The flooring should also support easy rotation, turning, forward and reverse movements of wheelchairs.
