What's New Training academy hails

first success Northwood has hosted the first of a planned series of training sessions at their Telford facility, under the North Shore Training Academy banner.

The objective is to ensure that the sales personnel of North Shore distributors are fully briefed as to the unique features and benefits of this new range of dispensers, giving them every opportunity to increase their sales to mutual benefit.

As one of the largest UK manufacturers of away from home disposable paper products, Northwood is happy to recognise its corporate responsibilities to help all involved to have access to all the facts needed to make informed decisions as to which dispensing system is the best in any given situation.

The course covers the key market sectors whose washroom needs North Shore has been specifically designed to meet, including discussion as to particularly significant aspects such as capacity, ease of maintenance, waste and potential cost savings.

Glasgow cleaners to get

bodycams? Following a string of verbal and physical attacks, there are calls for Glasgow’s street cleaners to be equipped with body cameras to deter violence.

Workers have been attacked, had objects like bottles thrown at them, been the subject of pranks and suffered verbal abuse. Drunk revellers have also been known to jump out in front of cleaning service vehicles too.

A GMB trade union spokesman said: “We’re working with large crowds of drunk people outside kebab and chip shops

ISSA and NAFCT reach an

understanding Worldwide cleaning industry association ISSA and the National Academy of Floor Covering Training (NAFCT) have announced that the organisations have entered into a memorandum of understanding regarding shared educational offerings to members.

After extended discussions regarding the strengths of each organisation’s education and certification curricula, both parties agreed that opportunities for cooperation exist. Such an endeavour would expand and complement both organisations’ educational offerings.

6 | WHAT’S NEW?

Detailed briefings on a product-by-product basis follow, with demonstrations of loading and general helpful insights into the how's and why's of particular features have been incorporated.

A special section deals with issues far beyond using recycled product. It deals with the creation of a healthy living and enhanced working environment, and covers the significance of the EU Eco Label with its span from raw paper to finished product.

Finally, there is insight into the development of sales strategies that allows the customer to have all the facts presented in a clear, concise manner that allows them to make a considered decision based on all the relevant facts.

Feedback from the first Academy session has been overwhelmingly positive and dates for the next ones are being finalised following the end of the main holiday season.

and they’re flinging things everywhere. Unfortunately, our guys are stuck in the middle of it and while we do try to avoid it, it’s our job to clean up the mess, but it makes us easy targets.”

Councillor Paul Carey is set to suggest body cameras for Glasgow City Council cleansing staff to combat the problem. The councillor previously introduced body cameras for traffic wardens, which resulted in a dramatic reduction in problems.

It is widely believed that abuse towards street cleaners has increased since the 2014 bin lorry crash, in which driver Harry Clarke passed out behind the wheel and crashed, killing six people and injuring 15.

Brant Insero, ISSA’s Director of Education, Training and Certification, said: “Both ISSA and NAFCT have a shared passion for education. Our joint efforts will lead to a richer and more thorough educational line-up for the cleaning industry.”

The global reach of ISSA and its education and certification programs across the industry is vast, while the advanced education in manufacturing, installation, and inspection offerings of NAFCT fall into a category that has not previously been offered by the ISSA. As a unifying source for that information, ISSA will provide the opportunity for those invested in the flooring industry to learn, communicate, and cooperate on an unprecedented scale.
