Hillbrush was founded by brothers Fred and Bill Coward in 1922, and they were later joined by their respective sons David and Richard along with Bill's son-in-law, Brian Thomas. It is now run by the 3rd and 4th generations, Philip Coward (Managing Director UK, President USA), Charles Coward (Commercial Director), Andy Coward (Finance and IT Director) and Peter Coward (Vice-President, Hillbrush Inc., USA).


Hillbrush has developed an extensive product line designed for a range of sectors, from hygiene products suitable for food manufacture and healthcare to natural fibre products for the agricultural industry.


Hillbrush Hygiene features ground-breaking filament retention technology to help ensure the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in the workplace. Our roots lie in the craftsmanship of traditional wooden brushware, and we produce a wide range of brooms and ancillary items as part of the Hillbrush Traditional Range. Hillbrush Commercial completes the product portfolio and features a vast range of products suitable for all manner of applications across the janitorial, household and hospitality sectors.


Hillbrush has its own brush fibre dressing department which began in 1926 and now, with a new purpose-built manufacturing facility which opened in 2016, we process all types of natural fibres from around the world. Having a fibre dressing department makes it possible to offer special mixes, with natural fibres used alongside synthetic materials.


The company's use of synthetic fibre has increased in recent years, including brushes for use in hygiene sensitive areas including food manufacturing plants, catering establishments, hospitals and kitchens. Hillbrush is still one of the largest manufacturers of wooden brushes in the world.


Through innovation and product development over the years, we were successfully able to introduce a range of plastic-backed brushes and cleaning equipment for the food and beverage industries, including our top-of-the-line hygiene products.

contamination and filament retention during cleaning. Implementing and adhering to good hygiene practices and a good Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan is an essential part of preventing contamination on food contact surfaces, and cross-contamination between workstations.


Hillbrush Anti-Microbial cleaning tools are infused with Biomaster Antimicrobial Silver-Ion Technology, which is designed to inhibit the growth of microorganisms by interfering with enzyme production. This then stops the cell producing energy, preventing movement which results in the prevention of bacterial growth and spread. Hillbrush Anti- Microbial is available in up to six colours to complement HACCP protocols.


Why use anti-microbial products? The use of chemicals in the cleaning process is common but using them alone is not always the most effective method. Manual cleaning with brushes, alongside chemical use, is still the best way of removing ingrained bacteria because the filaments can reach into areas that cleaning chemicals alone cannot, where biofilms may have formed.


Our unrivalled quality, experience and expertise have contributed to our prolonged success, and we are proud to have been granted the Royal Warrant by HM The Queen through services to the Royal Households since 1981.
