WHEN THE LITTLE THINGS ARE KEY TO SUCCESS
Paul Mulready, Marketing Manager at Northwood Hygiene Products Ltd, explains how paying attention to the key details has made the difference at Oxford United FC.
The Kassam Stadium and Conference Centre is one of the largest meetings and event spaces in Oxfordshire, to say nothing of it also being the home of Oxford United Football Club.
Catering for up to six hundred delegates and with average home gates of over 8,500, the washroom provision provided an interesting challenge for family owned and run Seldram Supplies Ltd. With over 35 years’ experience in the supply of cleaning and hygiene materials, they immediately realised that the washrooms had differing usage patterns that needed to be taken into consideration and underpinning it all, of course, cost in use was going to be a critical factor.
Working alongside Northwood Hygiene Products’ National Account team, they started out at the football club itself with the installation of Versatwin Toilet Tissue dispensers and Leonardo hand towel dispensers. This meant taking into account the differing requirements for the public washroom facilities for the match day crowd, the impressive corporate entertainment suites, and also included the provision of those required for the players changing rooms.
So the dispensers must not run out at peak times of high usage, they must be easy to maintain and monitor, they must help reduce wastage and they have to look the part too.
It soon became clear that Versatwin, with its single roll use system, was dramatically reducing stub roll wastage and the single sheet presentation of the hand towel dispensers was doing the same.
It was natural for the maintenance teams to err on the side of caution to avoid the dispensers becoming inoperative due to running out of stock at critical times, and so rolls were being replaced much earlier than was strictly necessary, just in

case. Now that doesn’t happen and there is the added bonus of washroom users tending to leave a much tidier washroom environment as well.

The careful and detailed monitoring showed that the installation was so successful that the Leonardo dispensers were then rolled out to other parts of this impressive Stadium. Firstly, the Conference Centre was fitted out and then both of the two hotels that form a part of the complex were also added to the mix.
The hotels were fitted with the Silver dispenser variant for both the hand towel and Versatwin dispensers, as the aesthetics and overall look were felt to be more appropriate in that particular setting, adding to the overall customer experience.
All have continued to show the same impressive results over time, resulting in a cost in use performance that more than meets expected targets. Maintenance team costs have come down as a result of the easier monitoring and cleaning of the dispensers, and less time is required to ensure
that washrooms meet the required standards of hygiene and presentation.
Oh and one more thing: a seemingly tiny detail but one that has made the operative’s life at these washroom facilities a little bit easier by removing an unsuspected source of irritation.
The keys to Leonardo dispensers are robust and each fit all of their dispensers. The previous dispensing installation had keys that were, in the eyes of the staff at the Kassam Stadium, too small and too fragile. The consequence? They broke and had to be replaced.
That, apparently, proved to be a far more difficult and time consuming operation than might be anticipated as well. Now it doesn’t happen and all the people on the team are much happier and much more efficient.
