Improving experiences

WhiffAway Group is at the forefront of the fight for better washroom hygiene through new solutions.

WhiffAway’s award-winning products can improve the washroom experience by eliminating odours and the risk of urinal flooding. At the same time, they reduce water and energy consumption, remove the need to use harmful chemicals, and also save money.

In a traditional urinal, odours are created above and below the bowl, leading to bad smells that can create a negative user experience. The flushing action creates a lime platform, which is an ideal environment for the cultivation of bad bacteria. As a result, more aggressive cleaning solutions are needed, and many of those may be hazardous and detrimental to the environment.

Current health and safety laws mean that cleaning staff are restricted on the chemicals they are allowed to use and as a result, many modern cleaning fluids lack the efficacy to keep washrooms completely clean, fresh and hygienic.

Waterless urinal technology eradicates the build-up of limescale, therefore reducing the chance of flooding and leading to considerable savings in maintenance costs. The technology can be retro-fitted to most existing systems and WhiffAway Group supplies a complete solution, encompassing all aspects of project delivery including site surveys, initial installation, planned maintenance and reactive support.

The cause of most urinal blockages is the buildup of uric acid, salts and limescale, which forms a bio-film on the urinal waste trap, drain and pipework – providing an ideal environment for bad bacteria to grow. Not only are these blockages expensive to clear, but they can also result in

overflowing urinals that create a poor impression of staff and visitors and alike. WhiffAway’s patented non-return valve housing prevents bacteria within the pipework, below the bowl, entering the washroom – while the system also eradicates bad odours.

Based on proven commercial, environmental and operational savings, waterless urinals do not cost organisations or institutions anything. In fact, when implemented and maintained correctly, they are a net contributor in every way.

Customer perception of hygiene is strongly linked to their sense of smell. A washroom can look clean, but if it smells bad then that’s a problem. Providing extraction in washroom environments is essential in terms of controlling levels of airborne bacteria and removing unpleasant odours. WhiffAway’s Air Quality Sensor (AQS) and Odour Eliminator provide the solution.

The AQS monitors temperature, relative humidity, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and CO2 levels within the washroom. Meanwhile, Odour Eliminator uses advanced technology, including photo-plasma, photo-catalytic oxidation (PCO) ozone and negative ions. The combination of these four important technologies results in high level oxidation and the action of ultraviolet, which significantly reduces all polluting organic matter and airborne odours within the washroom.

WhiffAway’s waterless urinal technology completely eradicates the odour problem usually associated with washrooms, but the company goes a step further with its Washroom Scenting Aircare Systems, which adopt tried and tested technology to achieve consistent fragrance release and enhance general washroom perception for staff and visitors alike. With a wide choice of fragrances, the systems features biodegradable refills with no aerosol or propellants.

Taking the consumer experience to the next level, WhiffAway understands that it has a duty of care to customers and staff alike, to provide suitable hand washing facilities in washroom environments, and a mandatory requirement to help avoid cross contamination and the spread of germs.

With this in mind, it has developed a range of handcare innovations, including UKAS-accredited soap and hand sanitising solutions which are delivered through fit- for-purpose dispensing methods and are IoT-enabled dependent on client requirements.

There’s little need to make a case for waterless urinals when it comes to washroom hygiene. Waterless urinals have been consistently proven to be up to five times more hygienic than conventional urinals.
