“E-learning can be done in bite-sized chunks on multiple devices, where the learner picks up where they left off at a time convenient for them.”

Learning on the job

Apprenticeships are a great way into the world of opportunities offered by the cleaning and FM industry, and provide a unique way for somebody to combine training and education with real-life, hands-on experience. It is a chance to embark on a career and learn ‘on the job’, whilst earning a salary – an often overlooked but vital part of career development.

At Facilicom, we are proud to support them – in fact, it makes sense on several levels for us. As well as making a profit, our business goals include contributing to general prosperity and playing a positive role in society. Giving people their first step on the career ladder or a chance to try out a new industry is an important part of that.

It also benefits the sector as a whole. Opening our industries via apprenticeships is an excellent route to reach a generation that might not otherwise have considered a career in cleaning. If we want our businesses to be somewhere that people choose to work rather than something they fall into, then giving them the opportunity to experience it first-hand could make a real difference.

Flexible learning methods

Making training widely available and flexible is important if people are to be able to access it consistently throughout their career. Classroom education is not always the most effective option – for time, cost or learning purposes – which is why we’ve introduced our electronic learning system.

This online facility means operatives can learn at their own pace, and concentrate on the areas they need to. Ongoing training is also supported through our ‘Theme and Task’ concept. This clearly sets out the daily, weekly and periodic cleaning tasks according to coloured visual themes, so operatives are always clear which tasks are required.

Reaping rewards

Training offers so many benefits and is a vital component in job satisfaction. If executed properly, it can make people feel valued, and ultimately help them to achieve their potential. In turn, businesses are repaid with higher levels of loyalty, greater productivity and better staff retention – and not to forget happy customers. So, put simply, investing in your workforce makes good business sense.
