BEYOND THE ROUTINE

Luke Rutterford, Technical Manager at Rentokil Specialist Hygiene, takes us through a number of specialist cleaning methods that go beyond your everyday routines.

Every cleaning professional knows that a regular, proactive cleaning regime is essential for maintaining basic hygiene standards. Not only does it keep things presentable, it helps to prevent the spread of infection and disease.

However, some situations require more than a routine clean to get the job done. Specialist cleaning methods are required for a huge variety of jobs, from removing graffiti, to cleaning high level areas and disinfecting bacterial outbreaks within the workplace. All of these jobs should be carried out by technicians who have undergone extensive training to do an effective job and help prevent the problem returning.

HIGH LEVEL CLEANING Many facilities will have areas that are difficult to keep clean and hygienic, often because they are hard to reach. In these cases, cleaning them can represent a safety risk for the regular staff. Fortunately, specialist hygiene professionals have both the equipment and expertise to clean these areas, such as ceilings, lights, ducts and other hard to reach spaces. Technicians work to stringent health and safety standards and complete a thorough risk assessment before undertaking any cleaning operation.

Mobile lifts and cherry pickers can allow technicians to reach elevated areas, and mobile scaffold towers

provide a free standing, stable and easily movable working platform. Technicians can even make use of rope access to abseil down to particular areas of a facility when required. Once onsite, specialist cleaning technicians will also have other tools which can be used to clean these difficult places, such as jet washers, backpack vacuums, water- fed brushes and long reach poles.
