10 QUESTIONS WITH... CHRIS KLOPPER

Each month we ask a cleaning industry professional the Tomorrow’s Cleaning 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to Chris Klopper, CEO & Founder, Mulberry Marketing Communications.

05

HOW WOULD YOU IMPROVE THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?

Campaign around the positive benefits to health, safety and the economy of what the cleaning industry does to attract new recruits and then offer far better training to keep them in the industry.

01 02

WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST JOB? A runner/cub reporter for the

editor of the Daily Mail.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE CLEANING INDUSTRY?

I was lucky enough to work on the editorial team for a couple of magazines during the “golden age” of cleaning industry publishing, which also saw stalwarts such as Opus’ own Mark Hanson, Laurence Allen, Neil Nixon and Chris Godman beginning to make their mark.

03 04

WHICH THREE WORDS DESCRIBE YOUR

PERSONALITY? Loyal, energetic, grounded.

IF YOU COULD VISIT ONE PLACE IN THE WORLD,

WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY? I have been lucky in that business has given me an opportunity to travel widely already. One of my ambitions is to visit all of the US states – I am currently either on 35 or 36 as I am not sure whether I have been to New Hampshire or not – so checking off the rest would be great.

56 | 10 QUESTIONS

IF AN INTERN WERE TO START TOMORROW, WHAT’S

THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE THEM? Every day, every communication, every conversation is an invaluable and unrepeatable learning opportunity; make the most of it and chances are that you will find that internship turn into a permanent job offer.

IF YOU WON THE LOTTERY TOMORROW, HOW WOULD

YOU SPEND YOUR FORTUNE? Buying (more) shares in Everton Football Club, an apartment in the Shard, houses in the Canadian Rockies and Long Island, and safeguarding my children’s futures.

08 09 10

IF YOU COULD HOST A DINNER PARTY AND INVITE

ANY THREE PEOPLE, DEAD OR ALIVE, WHO WOULD THEY BE AND WHY? Boris Johnson (pretty sure he would bring a decent bottle of red too), Adam/Eve (so I could get the real story) and author Tom Clancy.

WHAT, DO YOU THINK, IS THE FUTURE OF THE

CLEANING INDUSTRY? Technology empowering not replacing humans.

John ‘Jack’ Broadley, Master of The Worshipful Company of Environmental Cleaners, asks:

THE WORSHIPFUL COMPANY OF ENVIRONMENTAL

CLEANERS IS A TRADITIONAL CITY OF LONDON LIVERY COMPANY WITH A MODERN FOCUS. WHAT MORE COULD IT DO TO ATTRACT A RANGE OF NEW MEMBERS? Better communicate the benefits of membership, offer more value for members, make the Company more accessible and less cliquey, celebrate the rich heritage the Company has but look more to the future.
