CHSA Gala Ball raises thousands for

Grief Encounter Thanks to the generosity of its members and their guests, the Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) raised around £5000 at its Annual Gala Ball for Grief Encounter.

Grief Encounter supports bereaved children and their families to help alleviate the pain caused by the death of someone close.

The CHSA’s Gala Ball took place in May at the Staverton Park Estate and Golf Club. The sum raised adds to the £20,000 the CHSA has already raised for Grief Encounter. Contributions of all sizes being valuable to Grief Encounter, the funds are being put to good use.

• £50 pays for a one-to-one counselling session. • £100 provides a grief kit for a bereaved family.

• £500 pays for a bereaved family to attend a residential weekend.

• £1000 pays for a dedicated trauma specialist to conduct an initial response for one week with a school following the death of a student.

• £3000 pays for a family fun day for up to 80 bereaved children and their families.

David Garcia, Vice President of the CHSA and the driving force behind the Gala Ball, said: “We were delighted to host the Gala Ball again after the pause of the pandemic. Bringing together our members and their guests, it was a

BICSc gets starring role

The British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), headquartered in Northampton, played a starring role in filming for Dragonfly’s ‘Teen Mum Academy’ for E4.

The series features six ambitious teen mums as they embark on a bid to supercharge their lives, joining a potentially life-changing course run by entrepreneur Jess Lizama, to learn the skills they need to succeed. BICSc was invited to take part in the TV series to assist one teen mum, Millie, who has aspirations of joining the professional cleaning industry.

Looking to start her own business in cleaning and gain her first ever qualification, the TV programme features Millie, who visited BICSc HQ in Northampton where BICSc Assessor, Kelsey Hargreaves, took her through her Licence to Practice assessment. The qualification is the stepping stone to forging a career in the cleaning industry.

BICSc, who specialise in the training of cleaning operatives, were delighted to help Millie and be featured in the show, which is available to view via 4 on Demand.

Neil Spencer-Cook, Chief Operating Officer at BICSc, said: “BICSc was thrilled to appear on E4’s Teen Mum Academy. We are keen to encourage more young people to join the professional cleaning industry and discover there

wonderful highlight event. The evening was packed with brilliant entertainment, including ‘The Singing Waiters’, table magicians, and the live band CHOICE.

“Putting something back is at the heart of our ethos. A huge thank you to all our members and guests who contributed on the night and to our sponsors who made the whole event possible.”

Around 45,000 children experience the death of a parent or sibling in the UK every year, with an additional 10,000 children having experienced bereavement as a direct result of COVID-19 in 2021.

Bereavement is devastating at any age, but for a child it is life-changing. Grief Encounter offers a lifeline, providing free, immediate, one-to-one support that help children and young people with the confusion, fear, and loneliness they often feel following the death of someone close.

are numerous career pathways to succeeding in the sector.

“Millie was able to undertake her training via our virtual training suite and her assessment was done in person at BICSc. Taking part in the TV series enabled us to shine a spotlight on the industry’s growing requirement for flexible training, which includes online learning options.

“With 80-90% of requests we are receiving being for virtual training, it's a trend clearly here to stay. Switching to online courses is helping transform the training landscape and the benefits are multiple for candidates, allowing them to learn at their own pace and plan their personalised training sessions around their work and lifestyle.”

Since extensively enhancing its online offering of digital training courses, BICSc has had an unparalleled response over 17,000 enrolments globally, demonstrating the rapid rising requirement for digital training.
