An ICE cool update
In this Q&A, we ask ICE’s Mark Bresnihan about the company’s latest products, their focus on ESG, and what lies ahead.
How has this year been for ICE so far?
Extremely busy and exciting. Those who know ICE know that we never stand still, and we’re constantly striving to provide better products and services to support our customers. We’ve had a great first half year, with some significant contract retentions, which are testament to how much we care and go the extra mile.
We are extremely pleased that Premier Support Services recently re-signed with us for another five years, and are keen to work in partnership with us due to our flexible and innovative approach.
This year saw our long-standing customer Atalian Servest renew their contract with us on a three-year term, and we’re thrilled to be continuing the well-established relationship to support them and their clients.
Otium Services has also just renewed their agreement with us, and we’re delighted to be working with them to upgrade equipment across their national contract with a well-known health and fitness club chain.
We are also extremely proud to have been selected as Tier 1 preferred supplier to Mitie for all robotic cleaning requirements, and have been busy working with them to install Co-Botic machines across numerous sites, including all four terminals at Heathrow Airport.
ICE is well known for leading the way with autonomous cleaning. How is this going for you, and what can we expect for the future?
The journey hasn’t been an easy one, but autonomous cleaning is something we wholeheartedly believe in, and we continue to drive this forward in the market. We’ve seen the demand for autonomous cleaning dramatically gathering pace over the last two years since the launch of our ICE Co- Botics range, which is obviously really exciting to see.

Businesses are now really understanding the benefits that autonomous cleaning can bring, and are truly embracing the fact that automation isn’t about replacing operatives: it’s about working alongside the Co-Botic equipment and redeploying the valuable resource elsewhere. Co-Botics equipment now accounts for over 30% of our equipment sales.
In terms of what’s next, we’re very excited to announce that we have a new member soon to be joining the award- winning ICE Cobotics family – a compact 4-in-1 machine that sweeps, vacuums, scrubs, and dries.
The Phantas is a small machine with a 30cm cleaning width that literally cleans right up to edges and corners, guaranteeing complete cleanliness. It’s highly efficient and can clean efficiently in tight spaces, narrow aisles, and even under tables.
What’s more, the machine is able to identify different types of flooring and then automatically adjust the cleaning mode required. Plus, the on-board technology is now so advanced that the machine can even map itself without any human interaction – a huge step forward enabling quick and easy mapping of any cleaning area.
It can also detect areas of extreme dirt and carry out autonomous spot cleaning. By cleaning only where needed, this dramatically improves efficiency (by up to four times) and reduces energy consumption significantly.
The machine can also be remotely controlled via an App which includes map editing, meaning you can set up virtual walls or no-go areas all via the App. You can also activate, pause, or stop a cleaning task, or schedule the cleaning start time, all remotely without having to touch the machine. Detailed reports are also available through the App for each machine that show the area cleaned, water used and remaining, and battery and consumable life remaining.
