Supporting the healthcare sector
Paul Mulready, Marketing Manager at Northwood Hygiene Products, talks about their new proprietary washroom system in response to the challenges faced by the healthcare sector.
One of the enduring messages of the COVID-19 pandemic has been the importance of regular and thorough hand washing in order to limit the spread of the virus, as well as a growing awareness of the importance of effective hand drying to remove remaining microbes.
At the start of the pandemic, a high-profile piece of research by the University of Leeds found that paper towels remove remaining microbes more efficiently than electric hand dryers, and the NHS subsequently advised people to dry their hands with disposable towels. Healthcare workers have had the greatest challenge of everyone in the past 18 months and washrooms play a crucial part in helping to keep bacteria and contamination at bay.
Following a major investment at our Telford plant, Northwood has launched a brand-new proprietary washroom system, featuring disposable hand towel solutions developed specifically for high traffic washrooms such as in hospitals, care homes and GP surgeries. The Raphael collection comprises two toilet tissue and four hand towel dispensers, plus a soap dispenser, to deliver improved hygiene standards, whilst saving money, reducing waste and contributing to sustainability.
Improved hygiene standards
The collection has been designed for high traffic healthcare washrooms, so the Raphael hand drying dispensers provide contactless dispensing and the toilet tissue dispenser incorporates a BioKleen technology, to inhibit the growth or spread of bacteria. Made from a single-piece shell, the dispensers are easy to wipe clean and all towels and rolls are fully enclosed for added hygiene.
Raphael’s soap dispensers use foam soap and require less water for handwashing than liquid soap, delivering a generous shot to encourage single, efficient use. The dispensers are non-drop to help keep spaces clean and every soap cartridge comes with a new nozzle to minimise bacteria harbouring. There’s also a range of antibacterial foam soap lotions and hand sanitisers to help keep hands hygienically clean.
58 | HEALTHCARE HYGIENE Cost effective, zero waste
The range features the industry’s first twin high-capacity toilet roll dispenser, the TwinJumbo, which holds up to 800m of roll, to minimise the need for frequent replenishment. The system offers competitive cost-in-use. An infinity paper system allows users to replenish one roll at a time, eliminating waste and delivering cost savings in high footfall washrooms. The roll towel dispensers hold up to 250 each, providing around 500 dries, with some offering stub-roll transfer to ensure zero waste.
All Raphael hand drying systems dispense one at a time flat sheets, helping to prevent overuse and the folded towel dispenser has a 1000-sheet capacity. To help reduce over usage and minimise mess in the washroom, our dispensers have been specifically designed not to free roll.
Efficient and easy to use
The Raphael range has been designed with the end user in mind and is ergonomic and simple to use. The smoke and blue-coloured units are both translucent and the white dispenser features a transparent rear panel to help maintenance teams to see at a glance when they need topping up.
Our dispensers perform well in high traffic healthcare environments as they are constructed from durable Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) plastic and are scratch and impact resistant. They are also lockable, helping to prevent theft and untidiness.
Sustainable and environmentally friendly
The range consists of pure pulp and 100% recycled products, many of which are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, reflecting Northwood’s commitment to environmental sustainability throughout its operation.
Roll inserts are made from recycled bottle tops and can be recycled after use. All of our products are boxed in 100% recyclable packaging.
