It’s been hard to know what to say in these pages for the last few months. We’re well on the road to recovery from COVID-19 but it feels like that road just keeps getting

longer the further along it we travel. Who would have expected at the start of Spring 2020 that we would still be waiting for the lifting of social distancing restrictions in Summer 2021?

It’s truly remarkable though that, 16 months after the first lockdowns and restrictions were brought into place, we can even afford to feel frustrated about delaying our

‘Freedom Day’ by a few weeks. The Coronavirus pandemic is still very much ongoing, but with mass vaccination pushes around the globe, it’s a matter of when, not if,

we can return to normality. Such incredible progress would probably not have been possible just a couple of decades ago.

While we continue preparations for the safe resumption of normal life, the cleaning

and hygiene industry continues the preparation work to keep us all safe in our offices and, importantly, in our schools. In this issue’s dedicated Educational and School Facilities feature, we hear from Jarek at Uvisan, who outlines the benefits of UV-C technology, Danny from Lita Group FM looks at school cleaning during COVID and beyond, while Peter from Robert Scott gives us insight and recommendations for deep cleaning before students return in a few months.

In our Healthcare Hygiene feature, Liam from Essity looks into how healthcare

settings can improve their hand hygiene compliance, Chris from GOJO talks to us about the battle against antimicrobial resistance, and Evans Vanodine teaches us about the importance of effective test standards and contact times for surface disinfection and infection control routines.

We also hear from Kärcher UK in our Floorcare & Maintenance feature, as Daniel Took lets us know the benefits of scrubber dryers, while James from Denis Rawlins explains why rapid responses to floorcare problems can prevent accidents and save a lot of money.

Thank you very much for reading, please stay safe and enjoy the issue!
