Scrubbing up nicely
Daniel Took, Head of Professional Product Marketing at Kärcher UK, explains the unique features of scrubber dryers and their benefits in providing effective floorcare and cleaning.
As businesses prepare for workers returning, there’s been growing demand for scrubber dryers to provide useful and effective cleaning solutions to those operating across large premises. Their versatility and durability mean they’re a cost-effective solution for many sectors.
Widely used in industrial facilities, public spaces, and healthcare premises, scrubber dryers are effective tools in any facility manager's cleaning arsenal. Recent technological developments have meant that scrubber dryers are now more effective and far more reliable than they used to be, enhancing both the user experience and overall cleaning performance.
With businesses focusing on their environmental impact, high water usage in cleaning procedures is coming under scrutiny. Scrubber dryers offer an effective solution thanks to built-in water-saving features. The speed-dependent water dosing technology of Kärcher's Scrubber Dryer B 110 ensures users can effectively clean floors and remain economical in the process, reducing the water supply as the scrubber dryer goes round bends or travels slowly.
Conserving water like this results in more water remaining on board and the user can clean a larger surface area before needing to top up. During fast driving, more water reaches the brush head, while at a low speed the water volume is reduced, resulting in reliable suction, even along slower curves and during cornering. It’s possible to save up to 50% of water or cleaning agent using the speed-dependent tech, helping reduce the environmental impact. Reduced water use also results in faster drying and less residual water in bends, ensuring a safe, slip-free working environment.
Enhanced features offer businesses greater benefits when it comes to cleaning surfaces, saving time and cost without reducing effectiveness. Onboard side scrubbing decks enable businesses looking to maximise efficiency to find more cleaning solutions through the purchase of one product. They operate by extending a further 10cm from the scrubber dryer so that users can get closer to the surfaces they’re cleaning, like shelves or walls.
By cleaning multiple surfaces in one go, it saves resources as it negates the need to go back and manually clean surfaces by hand. As side scrubbing decks stick out from the machine, built-in technology works to protect the machine and avoid damage by allowing the scrubbing deck to swerve under the machine in the event of obstacles, allowing users to continue cleaning without the need to stop or fear damaging the machine.
42 | FLOORCARE AND MAINTENANCE
For cleaning wide open or large surface areas, ride-on scrubber dryers are most effective due to their onboard water tanks, allowing users to continually clean without the need for stop-start refills. The B 110 is carefully designed with this in mind, with the addition of two onboard 110L tanks, each adapted to hold either fresh water or dirty water.
Not all staff members are the same height or build, so care has been taken by including a built-in height-adjustable seat. This is key for maximising the economic value of the equipment as it allows any operator to use the machine. Health and safety need to be factored into cleaning jobs, and ensuring a comfortable sitting position ensures fatigue- free work over longer periods.
Including robust aluminium brush heads results in high- quality cleaning performance and low backlash, reducing noise levels during cleaning by up to 10 dB(A), making it easier for users over extended use periods. The newly- developed squeegee is made of sturdy die-cast aluminium and with a tear-resistant suction lip, allowing frequent use for years to come.
With greater demand for floorcare and overall cleanliness as people return to work, the technological developments and effectiveness of scrubber dryers make them a key solution for any business looking to enhance their floorcare maintenance.
