Fair pay success for Cleanology
Cleanology’s long-term commitment to fair pay in the cleaning industry has resulted in a win at the prestigious Living Wage Champion Awards.
The annual Living Wage Champion Awards celebrate notable employers that are paying the Real Living Wage. This year, they recognised 20 years of the Living Wage campaign.
CEO Dominic Ponniah said: “Of all the awards Cleanology has won in recent years, this has the most significance. It means so much to our team, which campaigns tirelessly to make Cleanology a Living Wage company. In an industry known for low pay and fast turnover of staff, we are committed to changing the landscape, and we are unbelievably proud to receive recognition for our work.”
Cleanology was the winner of the Recognised Service Provider 2021 category. Since 2017, the company has almost doubled the number of employees receiving the Real Living Wage. As well as promoting fair pay among clients through awareness-raising events and annual reviews, it includes a Real Living Wage option in every new bid and makes it clear that this is the preferred way of working. 40% of bids include the Real Living Wage as a mandatory element.
Ponniah added: “Fair pay is a basic right. Signing up to the Real Living Wage offers employees security and gives a clear message that they are valued. In return, we are rewarded with greater loyalty and more thorough work. We will continue to push for the Real Living Wage throughout our organisation.”

The University of Glasgow has signed a new deal with Scotland-based cleaning services provider, Perfect Clean Ltd.
With a three-year contract, Perfect Clean's work will ensure student safety across all living spaces, common areas and bathrooms, including entrance halls and staircases where footfall is high. The university is home to nearly 30,000 students, accommodating 3500 across the University’s onsite campus.
Ranking 19th in the top Universities in the UK and 3rd in Scotland, it’s natural for students to expect a high standard of living for their return to education as lockdown measures ease. Perfect Clean began work on 1 June for the current 2020-2021 students returning to onsite accommodation.
Emilia Ferenc, Managing Director of Perfect Clean Ltd, shared: “We have been thrilled to sign this contract with the University of Glasgow. Working with the university to ensure the safest possible environment for both students and staff is the height of our priority.
“We want to create a better Scotland after all that has happened in the past 18 months during the coronavirus pandemic, and the best way we feel we can contribute is by offering our specialist services to the businesses and organisations that need us most.
“We look forward to working with the University of Glasgow this year on their accommodation and communal areas across the campus.”
