CHEMICALS & DOSING EQUIPMENT

Easing The Load

Mick Christian, Regional Training and Demonstration Manager for laundry, at Electrolux Professional offers his advice on how, by using the correct amounts of detergent and chemicals, laundry operatives can ensure efficiency, consistency and cost effectiveness across every load.

Detergent plays an important role in every laundry process in every sector, and accurate dosing can have a huge impact on the complete laundry process both in terms of effi ciency and cost. Not only is the right amount of detergent important for cleaning, but it is also crucial for maintaining consistency across every load.

Cost Implications Costs also come into play, as an effi ciently dosed system can save drastic amounts of money. Automated features on machines are becoming increasingly useful for this, as this can save time as new members of staff do not need to be taught very minor details of machine functionality, enabling them to focus on the wider processes. Dosing can also be subjective if left to the everyday machine user, and some operators may be more generous than others with the portion applied to each load. This is not only inconsistent but can also become very costly over time, with copious amounts of detergent being wasted.

Overdosing of detergent is more often the rule than the exception and can not only have costly implications, but can also lead to damaged linen and skin irritations. Traditional systems work on the assumption that the machine is always loaded to its nominal capacity but in reality we know that this does not always happen and under loading of the machine is quite common. cases, information about linen weight isn’t transferred to the dosing system so consequently, chemicals aren’t dosed correctly, resulting in damaged linen and higher costs.

Over the last two decades numerous companies have entered the laundry market touting the benefi ts of chemical disinfection in the laundry process and generally their claims fall into two broad categories. Firstly, signifi cant savings can be made by elimination of hot water, as certain chemicals can perform very effectively in colder water, and secondly, signifi cant savings can be made by reducing chemicals in the wash process, as they will clean and sanitise in one step. This is true, but detergent is added as part of the wash process even when it is not the main method of disinfection, so operators and facilities managers should look towards equipment with dosing systems built in.

Effi cient Dosing

Innovations The ability to defi ne the correct amounts of chemicals represents a real step forward for laundry technology, and requires the features of an integrated system. The Effi cient Dosing System from Electrolux Professional ensures the best wash results at the lowest cycle cost.

possesses the Automatic Saving System as a standard feature on all Compass Control high and super spin washers and relevant wash programmes. This function determines the linen weight and adds the correct amount of water necessary for the particular cleaning process. The Effi cient Dosing System then allows the washer and the detergent dispensers to communicate with each other and calculates the precise amount of detergent based on the linen weight and the selected wash program. And with customised options available for usage across various laundry segments, the results are signifi cant cost savings on water, energy and up to 20% savings on detergent.

This system offers further benefi ts in terms of effi ciency and safety due to multi language and automatic dosing functions, as well as having a positive impact on the environment due to the control of chemicals in the process.

We recognise that one of the major reasons for investing in an on premises laundry is control over how and when linen is laundered, so have ensured the features on all of our devices maximise this feeling of control for top effi ciency and results for every load.
