Industry experts have predicted that the global cleaning chemicals market could reach $46 billion (£29.3 billion) by 2018, an increase of 4.3%.

This comes from a new report from international business research group, Freedonia, who say that due to increasing efforts to prevent the spread of disease in healthcare and food and beverage manufacturing applications, the global demand for industrial and institutional (I&I) cleaning chemicals is projected to increase by around $9 billion (£5.7 billion) in the next four years.

The fastest growth, according to the report, is expected to occur in healthcare, because of a rise in the number of hospital stays,

and concerns about healthcare- associated infections, while the manufacturing sector is also expected to be a signifi cant source of growth, especially in developing countries, where there is a focus in increasing cleaning standards.

The aging population in Europe, North America, Australia, China and Japan, as well as rising prosperity in many developing countries, will see greater healthcare utilisation, meaning increased spending that will lead to be an important driver in the growth of cleaning chemical demand, the report says.

A Change For The Greater Good

This month, a residential cleaning company in Virginia will be converting to a non-profi t organisation aimed at providing free home cleaning to cancer patients.

The Greater Good Green Cleaning, based in Hampton Roads, Virginia Beach, decided to make the switch to a non-profi t organisation (NPO) as a means of giving back and making a difference in their community following a partnership with Cleaning for a Reason, another NPO that works with cleaning companies across America to provide free home cleanings for female patients with cancer.

After only a couple of appointments, owner Brittany and manager Ellie decided that they wanted to continue helping those in need by providing free home cleanings to cancer patients, especially considering that Ellie’s own father passed away after having pancreatic cancer in January of last year.

She said: “Nothing took higher priority than my dad’s appointments, treatment and care. The family had many priorities to continue to attend

to and a clean and tidy house was not a high priority when you are taking care of someone you love full time. Unfortunately, with a weakened immune system, this is when he needed a clean home the most.”

During and after the transformation, The Greater Good Green Cleaning will continue servicing their existing, and any new clientele, with any amount paid to them considered a tax deductable donation. A portion of these donations will then go directly into fi nancing free home cleaning appointments for cancer patients, while the remaining funds will help cover operational costs, promotional materials and expansion.

Once converted, they hope to raise almost $37,000, the amount needed to provide free residential cleaning appointments to cancer patients in their area, enabling them to provide appointments to two patients a day, fi ve days a week, for a year, with each patient entitled to one appointment per month for three months. 23
