The Preparation Group was established in 1991, initially as a specialist contractor preparing and profiling substrates, operating nationally. The company has successfully expanded its range of products, and services then naturally moved into the design and manufacture of equipment used in the contracting services division PPC. When local architects recommended polished concrete for their client’s new build, they called in PPC, the Preparation Group’s Contracting Division.
The Preparation Group’s technical director, Paul Igo liaised with the concrete supplier to advise that uniformity in finishing was essential to achieving the client’s expectations of the finished polished concrete floor. The Preparation Group provided specification to polish the slab to a high lustre shine. The benefits of polished concrete have been widely publicised for sustainability, durability, beauty, strength, excellent wear resistance and anti-slip properties.
Using the Terrco multi-head 7100 model the slab was initially ground smooth removing the top 2-3mm of laitance with metal bond diamonds then stage polished using a combination of metal and resin bond grades of diamond. A densifier was then applied and final polish with high grade resin diamonds and high speed burnisher.
The results impressed all parties involved; the project was completed on schedule with no disruption to other operations in the final finishing stages of completing the build project.
