Essity is a global hygiene company that operates in 150 countries under market-leading brands including Tork and Tena. Tork offers a wide range of cleaning and hand hygiene products including cloths, wipers, hand towels, toilet paper and soaps. The company is dedicated to coming up with innovations that make life easier for customers and stakeholders.

It is no easy task to keep a public washroom smelling pleasant at all times. The ‘spray and fade’ effect typical of many traditional air fresheners means their fragrance will only last for a short time before malodours return.

It’s also often necessary to place air freshener dispensers high up on the wall to deliver freshness to the whole room, while also avoiding situations in which a fragrance may be squirted in a visitor’s face. However, high-up dispensers are more problematical to check and refill for staff.

Tork has now launched a new system that has been designed to facilitate the continuous fragrancing of washrooms. The Tork Constant Air Freshener uses a unique, propellant-free technology to neutralise odours continuously and evenly.

It can last for up to 90 days before needing a refill, and the system is available in a range of scents that eliminate bad odours and provide a consistent, fresh washroom experience.

Washrooms account for more than 45% of the complaints that facility managers receive, according to research. In a recent Tork study, it emerged that 67% of employees are more likely to complain about the toilets than any other aspect of their office.

Essity’s Meta Grundén claims the company always considers end-customer requirements when developing innovations. Meta said: “Our research has highlighted the challenges customers were experiencing with traditional air fresheners, both in terms of their function and their accessibility for cleaning staff. It revealed that what they really wanted was a consistent solution, with a constant scent over time as well as a system that could be much more easily serviced.”

The dispenser can be mounted at a reachable height on the wall and is certified as ‘easy to use’, meaning it’s simple for cleaners to refill and maintain. Refills and battery changes can be planned into existing cleaning routines to save staff valuable time.
