“It enables businesses
to ‘go circular’ by closing the loop and providing a
sustainable solution to an ongoing waste disposal problem.”
“We aim to help many more customers to recycle, reduce waste and reduce their CO2e emissions.”
Tork PaperCircle is now up and running in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden. The most successful markets so far have been Germany and Sweden, countries where sustainability is high on the agenda. In Sweden there is an ongoing ambition to be sustainable which is shared by both companies and local governments. In Germany the same ambitions apply – and there is also legislation in place stipulating that companies need to work actively to reduce their waste.
Since towels need to be recycled close to the customer’s premises in order to be sustainable, only those customers situated near to Essity’s mills are currently able to join the scheme. But how close they need to be will change as the scheme becomes more successful.
At the moment, Tork PaperCircle customers all have to be situated within a 500km radius of one of our mills to make the scheme viable. The more customers join up, however, the further away from our mills they can be.
We are proud to have this key service up and running and we believe the time is now ripe to roll out Tork PaperCircle

across a wider audience. Our customers want us to help them reach their sustainability goals and we are striving towards fulfilling our own ambitions in this regard. Tork PaperCircle will helps us to do this – particularly since we are aiming to launch in two new large markets in Europe later this year.
The service has gathered momentum and we have been able to grow organically with the support and interest of partners and customers. This has allowed us to hold new types of dialogue with customers and form partnerships based on professional hygiene and sustainability.
Tork PaperCircle won two awards at 2018 Interclean Amsterdam as well as a commendation from the European Parliament in the European Paper Recycling Awards. The scheme will be one of the highlights of the Tork stand at this year’s Interclean event, which is now to be held in November.
A rollout of the service in the UK is high on the agenda, and we hope this will happen very soon. So far, PaperCircle has enabled us to collect 600 tonnes of paper hand towels, resulting in a 475,800kg CO2 reduction. And as the service grows and develops, we aim to help many more customers across a range of markets to recycle, reduce waste and reduce their CO2e emissions.
We will continue to work in close collaboration with our partners and key stakeholders. We believe the potential for Tork PaperCircle is huge and that it will soon be extended to cover the whole of Europe – and eventually, the world.
