The ratio of success

Choosing the right dispensing equipment for your concentrated cleaning chemicals is essential, says Brightwell.

The popularity of dispensing equipment for concentrated cleaning chemicals is continuously increasing thanks to their environmental, safety, accuracy and cost saving benefits. A chemical dispensing unit doses or dilutes concentrated cleaning chemical at the point of use, by the end user, with just a push of a button. Systems that deliver accurate and consistent chemical dosing are essential for delivering high quality cleaning results.

Making sure that the system you purchase works for you is vital. Does it dose the amount of chemical you require? Can you change the amount you need to dose easily? There are many different types of chemical dispensing systems on the market and businesses need to consider a few key factors before making a decision.

Location

Access to mains water is one of the main considerations when beginning to consider dosing/dilution system options. If you do not have access to mains water, a manual dosing system would be suitable. The most simplistic version of a manual dosing system is the pelican pump, whereby a pump is screwed to the neck of a chemical container. This method provides some control over chemical dosing and offers some end user safety, but is not very efficient as the user can dispense chemicals multiple times.

To avoid overdosing or misuse of the concentrated chemical, the better product solution is to have a manual dosing system with some form of delay mechanism to prevent repeat dosing. The ECOSHOT from Brightwell Dispensers, for example, is a manual standalone chemical dispensing system that does not require a mains water connection, and its built-in delay function prevents overdosing once a shot of chemical concentrate has been delivered.

If you have a mains water connection, you can consider a more sophisticated solution such as a Venturi-based dilution system. These systems, such as the ECOMIX and ECOMULTI from Brightwell Dispensers, create a vacuum

and dilute a pre-determined ratio of chemical concentrates with mains water, delivering a final cleaning solution.

Dispensing

Depending on the cleaning task, the dispensing/dosing equipment will need to dose into different containers, including spray bottles, buckets, sinks, scrubber dryers and other receptacles. The cleaning task, and the container that the diluted chemical will be used in, determines the flow of the dispensing system; high flow systems can fill buckets, sinks and scrubber dryers, whereas to fill a spray bottle a low-flow system is sufficient.

Before choosing a dispenser, it is important to consider how many cleaning chemicals need to be dispensed and the wall space available. Would you like to have a one-stop cleaning station for multiple cleaning chemicals, or is just one chemical sufficient? If the user is using multiple cleaning chemicals for different purposes, dispensers often come with clear, colour-coded signage that shows which chemical to use for each application – ideal for busy environments and to avoid potentially hazardous chemical mixing.

Easy installation and maintenance is beneficial as it means the job can be done quickly and efficiently. For busy environments, equipment that minimises the time spent installing and maintaining the system itself may be key for you.

Overall, it is increasingly common practice for companies to use a chemical dispensing system. There are many products to choose from in the market, which type they use is down to each business’ requirements. Dispensing systems provide safe, accurate dosing that manages cost-in-use and minimises waste, and their popularity will increase in the coming years.

Brightwell Dispensers offers businesses a wide range of reliable, efficient chemical dosing and dilution systems to meet the demands of the cleaning and hygiene industry.
