Proactive advocacy is always easiest but reactive advocacy sometimes becomes necessary.
The WMEA Advocacy pages on the WMEA website are great resources to check out:

Wisconsin State Music Conference 2021 – “Music Education: Students at the Center”
The 2021 Wisconsin State Music Confer- ence will return to Monona Terrace Com- munity & Convention Center in Madison, October 27–30. This year’s theme is “Music Education: Students at the Center.”
WMEA members from around the state met virtually on January 9 to review and prioritize sessions for the October confer- ence. Because of the success of the virtual piano bar event in 2020, it was decided to replicate that experience and celebrate our ability to gather again in person by holding the WMEA President’s Reception on the evening of Wednesday, Octo- ber 27 in the Grand Terrace overlooking Lake Monona.
Katie Prihoda, Tomah Middle School Band and Brad Schneider, Advocacy Committee chair meet with State Senator Patrick Testin during WMEA’s Virtual Drive-In Days.
In keeping with the “Music Education: Students at the Center” theme, many ses- sions will explore how to identify student needs, design responding curriculums and use teaching strategies that meet those needs. Look for registration materials later this summer.

WMEA Elections
Two regional vice president elections will be held this spring. Joe Finnegan of D.C. Everest High School and Ginger Marten of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School are candidates for North Central district vice president. In the South Central district, Erica Breitbarth of Milwaukee Reagan High School and Aimee Swan- son of East Troy Middle/High School are candidates for vice president. WMEA is extremely fortunate to have such talented educators step up to assume leadership positions. Please keep an eye out for your election ballot email and be sure to vote!
