WSMA News Festival Dates & Locations
Festival Managers should view and submit 2026–27 District Festival dates and locations on the WSMA Festivals Schedule and Calendar webpage. Submission of information will ensure that the Festival Manager is copied on all critical Festival related communications, that the Festival is included on our website calendar, and that preliminary judges are assigned during the first round of contracts. If you are unsure if someone else already submitted the form, please refer to this Google Sheet of submitted 2026–27 Festival Information.

Student Composition Project
The WSMA Student Composition Project encour- ages and recognizes the efforts of Wisconsin’s student composers. This past year, 68 submissions were received from 39 schools. After the Spring deadline, evaluators have an opportunity to nominate students whose composition was truly exceptional. After nominations have been determined, evaluators select the Exemplary Composition Award recipients. The 2025–26 Nominations and Awards are posted on our website.
The Student Composition Project provides student composers the opportunity to receive written cri- tique by a professional Wisconsin composer on the positive qualities of their composition and ways to improve as a composer.
Both notated and non-notated (audio files) com- positions are accepted in a wide variety of genres. Tentative dates for 2026–2027 submissions are Oct. 5–Dec. 18, 2026 (fall semester), and Feb. 1–April 16, 2027 (spring semester). For more information, visit the Student Composition Project webpage.
